Had some more itching to get my 1989 SE/20 on-line. Read up on ancient Video Cards in general and for my particular model. I don't expect to be browsing S7T -but more to pop in using a text-based web browser, as the likes of Wannabe -would prefer finding one for SWW 6.0.8 and earlier. Oh hey @Neal_SE30 -Thanks! Slipped my mind last time I were about to thank you. During my search I did stumbled over this article TrueType on old hardware? -Installing modern fonts on a 30-year-old Macintosh (not using Fontographer). I converted the read from the HTTPS site by linking it though IA, by inserting http://web.archive.org/web/202205/http:// in front -let us know if it works on your vintage browsers -didn't boot up my OS 9 to test. I think it does, but had to edit the original (2nd) https URL too by removing the S -otherwise IA opens up the link as https By the way -the author wrote the blog post on a 1991 Macintosh Classic running System 7.1, with a standard Motorola 68000 clocked at 8 MHz -using Microsoft Word 4.0. Edit New link -through FrogFind |

Hmm Hi Cashed. The Mac Garden link for Wannabe shows as http, but those two lower links show as https for me when my mouse is hovering over them, despite the http being visible in the bottom link. Kind of weird. Perhaps using BBcode is better behaved: Edit... nope, the S7T server has decided that it's going to be https to the WA and nothing else :-( I don't know of any System 6 browser... be nice to find one.

Thanks a lot MTT Nice to know this only works on captured http sites by IA. Linked the site through FrogFind instead. The author used TTConverter to convert TrueType fonts, then used Adobe Type Manager to convert the fonts into bitmap fonts Are there any workarounds to force better text-rendering -when visiting pages on OS 9 and lower? Everything looks very bitmap-ish and jumpy, as well as the formatting. Edit Nvm, found it under Preferences - Apperance - Fonts. Changed all mine to Arial -text on vintage pages renders perfectly readable now.

No need to thank me cached. oh SE/20 online, now that is a fun challenge. you defo need frogfinder to strip out all the stuff. I must confess as I have my G3 imac next to my SE/30 I often use that first and when i find the article i want to read it's at that point I will go on the SE/30. I'm doing that now on system7 forum. it's just so much quicker searching through on the G3 first but then respond using the SE/30. it's slow enough on 16mhz 68030 so 8mhz 68000 will take a while to load pages. Still though impressive it can do it, you gotta remember it pre-dates the internet by 4 years! Class

Had to expand my primary applications volume to 8GB today. I only had 68MB left on the old 4GB disk. :O

Quote from: cballero Wow! It's from the Mac OS 8.1 USB? Feasible, but still incredible! Yes! And some hackery to the 8.1 System file. Works quite well actually. Will package everything together and make it available for download on S7T

Enjoying a free morning with a cup of coffee, listening to webradio while playing a round of Allied General. Think I'll start garden planning for next year in a few mins. Given the economic outlook, it'll be a good idea to grow as many vegetables as possible at home. Who needs lawn anyway.

Woo hoo!! ![]() How well does it run, Neal? (I bet it's pretty good as long as the software matches the SE's time-period)

Midi would work on a 128k original i imagine from a small sequencer programme off floppy disk, older 8/16 bit machines can run midi including old casio keyboards. it's really the peripherals that do the work, I cant remember what the bitrate is but it's low through serial and the sequencer software simply sequencies the timing between the peripherals and instruments at 1Mhz and selects an instrument number from a set bank of 256 instruments and 64 drum kits, ie drums are channel 10, Piano 1 etc In truth it's my roland SC-88 that actually does the work, it has all the hi-res sampled synth sounds in memory and a DSP chip for reverb, sustain, echo, pan etc. you have to remember the roland on it's own was £800 in 1995 in todays money that would be something like £2000, it's a semi professional peice of kit and you also needed the keyboard and any other bits like samplers, electric guitars etc.... so a 16 channel software like cubase will do the sequencing and allow you to select any of the 16 channels and overlay them but that is all it does. Myself I have no music talent whatsoever but always fancied trying some dance music creation and now I can try doing it on my SE/30 for a giggle lol. I've been collected bits here and there for doing this for years and now I can. it has taken a month to setup though.

Quote from: MTT I don't know of any System 6 browser... be nice to find one. I recall two browsers for System 6, and you know at least one of them :-) The candidate in question is MacWWW from 1992 which is *very* bare-bones. I'm not sure if it'll be able to render even any page, but I haven't tried it. I may fire up the IIci now to find out. http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/macwww The second one is "Browser 6" which was developed by an individual from the 68kmla forums many years ago. It's incomplete and I haven't got it to render any website for me. But I haven't played around with it more than 5 minutes. http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/browser6 The one thing that will work very well on System 6 though are Gopher and Bulletin Board Systems. They also feel much more fitting for an SE
