Oh there's so much buzzing going on -I can't keep up! :D

Hi Mike -thanks for posting that screenshot of the Truth font -were eager to see it yesterday when I read this.

Heh @68040 that's a lot!
Great to find other font addicts in here :D
There sure should be a page @Bolkonskij -found many fonts on my quests.

I just tried the iOS App 'WhatTheFont' on Truth -it did not show me the truth, but gave me 20 other similar fonts.

Today, firstly I got on this forum on my SE/30. it is very slot though lol.  Not sure what network card it is but i was lucky the one I brought from ebay had the card already in the PDS slot, seller didn't know and neither did I at first. anyway I digress.
So step 2 today is look at installing the imap email client in the software section as I've always wanted to use my SE/30 for emailing.
Step 3, try to get my midi studio working. that has been an on going trial and error for the last few weeks though so I might not achieve that.

There you that's it today though :)

I got a font called "PremiTruThi" and that's the only "Truth" I can "Find(er)" in my collection.

Quote from: cballero, who had mentioned earlier:
the San Fran copy I received looked completely ruined for system display purposes, so I couldn't get its font look in my Classic's finder..

I wonder if the person who shared it with me had only copied it straight or if they had tried to convert it?
Possibly the person, like me, had used the TrueType version in the download linked to in your post (Reply #41).

I wasn't at all happy with my results and it eventually dawned on me that the TrueType font from apple is really truly awful. It has font glyphs that have not been finalized and they create fonts with bits missing when printed. In a small font size this isn't too noticeable, but enlarged it become glaringly visible.

So, revisiting this classic font challenge, I embarked on converting the OTF font sets instead. These fonts are better, but they aren't perfect either. I would think that the text side of this font is not ready for prime time. Most of the font is taken up by "wingding" type picture characters covering a huge range, and applicable to mainly phones and tablets.

In fact, to get a typical text only System 7 font here, I needed to destroy some 17,700+ glyph characters per font. I decided to build a font using 4 weights from the download, a regular font, italic, bold and bold italic. Which came to approx. 80,000 glyph characters requiring removing, all up.

Anyway if you want to take a look at the final System 7 compatible font sans picture glyphs, both TrueType and Type 1 fonts can be downloaded from here.

If you just want to view the fonts as printed from a 7 system you can download this PDF consisting of the 4 weights printed out.

Note though, that the two weights, regular and bold are missing some glyphs. These are missing from the download from Apple, and it's why I think that this font is not really meant for printing or is still a beta unfinished font.

If you do download the font, you don't need to DL the PDF as that is included in with the font download.

Mike, it's beautiful! :D

Wow, thank you so much for undertaking such a detailed process to convert this font!! My intent was to try it with a Modern OS 'half-finished' K-scheme I have in my scheme vault and it looked pretty neat! Verdana is cleaner as fonts go for menu/window display clarity and such, but this is leagues beyond what I first looked at!! I know I will put it to good use now that I've tested it ;)

Again! Bravo for a job superbly done my friend!! :)

@cballero: YW :)

I think this font will be fine if used as a menu or system wide font in a desktop display.

I can't see myself using it as a general font. The lack of some essential glyphs will see to that, but I can see it would be OK for use in a K-scheme related project, for sure.

I started looking into the sources for MacLynx just to see if I can make it a bit more "Mac-ish". Also updated the Sonnet driver on my 8600 and it seems to be a bit more stable now.

It's a text based web browser. A port of "Lynx" to the Mac.
Quite old, but have gotten some updates recently :)

It does work, but it's very rough around the edges. Not very Mac-like interface / usage. I'm actually going to update our page on System 7 browsers with Knezzen and my results from testing it yesterday. [done]

Try it out but I wouldn't recommend it. If looking for a "text-only" browser, I still prefer WannaBe despite it's lack for forms support (but plugins make up for that). BUT MacLynx is open-source, it is still maintained and it might get further updates which could make this become THE choice one day.

Here's a link to the website: http://www.floodgap.com/retrotech/mac/lynx/maclynx_en.html

As some may recognize, it's Cameron Kaiser (of TenFourFox fame) who is behind that project. Maybe if we send him some encouraging e-mails (see "comments") it might motivate him to continue working on it?

I installed the HFS+ patch for Mac OS prior to 8.1 on my PowerMac 8600 running 7.6.1 and it's running great! The fundamental difference in how the filesystems work is really noticable in terms of the sheer speed everything runs at now (it was quite speedy before as well). I'm working on a "System 7 Today" 7.6.1 distribution which will incorporate all our recommended updates as well as this hugely recommended HFS+ support patch.

I identified the Virex control panel as the evil doer that kept my ATM from functioning correctly and caused my system boots to fail recently.

Seems that thing just croaks beyond a certain number of resident files. Or maybe the prefs got corrupted?

Whatever, I'll check that out later in life.

That was one week I'd like to get back. :O

Knezzen, what’s fell wrong with 7.6.1? Is there a reason to goto 8.1?

Maybe I was a bit unclear with what I wrote :P

Mac OS 8.1 is the first version of Mac OS to support the HFS+ filesystem, but someone backported HFS+ suppo rt to older versions of Mac OS and System 7. I gave it a go today and it works wonders. Writing this on my 8600 booted into 7.6.1 on a HFS+ partition.

I wont be going to 8.X or 9.X on this machine, I promise ;)a
