Off Topic Discussion / Re: Memorable TV moments
February 20, 2026, 18:13 |
Quote from: Bolkonskij Yesterday, the wife and I started watching the 90's US sitcom "Seinfeld" which some of you may remember. Right in the pilot episode, what is there lurking on a desk behind Jerry? I watch Seinfeld re-runs here in the US often. I had forgotten about Jerry's desktop Macs until watching an episode just recently. He had a few different Macs on the desk throughout the show's run. I think there was even a Powerbook Duo in a Duo Dock at one point. One of my favorite shows. I hope you and your wife enjoy it, Bolkonskij. |

Hardware / Re: Two new BlueSCSI versions coming out

This is great news. Glad to see such a vital project for retro-computing continue to improve and evolve. It's time for me to get an internal BlueSCSI for my PowerCenter Pro. |

Software / Re: Keeping track of my stock portfolio on System 7
October 04, 2025, 18:21 |
Clever! I like this - thanks for sharing this, Bolkonskij. - System 7 and these Macs of ours may be old, but they are still useful for organizing bits and pieces of everyday life, just like you've described. Recently, I sorted through a collection of toy trains to find a selection my child could give to a friend for his birthday. I needed a detailed list to make things easier. I created a database in ClarisWorks, that I later converted to a big Excel spreadsheet. It was a fun project, and System 7 software was the right tool. - The magical.fish Gopher hole is deep and connects to a variety of information sources like this. It is well worth checking out! |

Feedback & Ideas / Re: Any interest in a bare-bones MacLynx theme?
October 04, 2025, 17:45 |
Yes. I'd like to do a bit more with Lynx (from a Powerbook 5300), so I'd be interested in this theme. |

Hardware / Re: Need help deciding on System 7 machine
August 08, 2025, 21:11 |
I used a PM 4400 as my daily driver about 25 years ago. It was used and very inexpensive, so what I saved initially went gradually into numerous upgrades over the next year or two. It served well. I think most of what would be been considered limitations in its day are far less important now. The cache card is something to check though. Given that G3 upgrades used this slot, you might find a pleasant surprise:) LowEndMac meant well when they defined their list of "Road Apples" way back when, but these distinctions were products of a different time and far different usage circumstances. If you can find one that let's you have some System 7 fun, especially if the price is far less than machines that were powerhouses in their day, go for it. |

Off Topic Discussion / Re: Snow Leopard on MacBook2,1
December 10, 2024, 23:31 |
Had that same MacBook for long while until I sold it last year. There was something about Snow Leopard on that machine that just felt right. I haven't used Snow Leopard in a while though. Maybe time to play around with it again. Can't say I've used SeaLion, but I've had great experience lately with Aquafox on my iMac G4. It is responsive, a bit faster to load - and it flies on the G5 I've revived in the cellar. snes123... my souped up 2006 Mini runs Antix Linux and I've loved the experience. Antix is fast, lightweight and can be tinkered with endlessly. I upgraded the Mini years ago to the T7600 CPU, Mini 2,1 firmware and 3 GB RAM. It's a pleasure to use. |
