Emulation / Re: How do you share files over Basilisk II?
February 14, 2025, 11:35 |
Quote from: ShinobiKenobi I read another topic here that said not to use the "Unix" drive on the desktop because it will result in data corruption, so I really have no way to get files and software the way it is. Perhaps this might have simply been referring to the fact that you should only use the "Unix" drive for file transfer in the Finder. Trying to use or open the files from another application in the emulator should be avoided. (In my experience with SheepShaver it simply doesn't work at all to open the files still on the "Unix" drive in another app.) |

Software / Re: Apple IP Gateway; Mosaic
October 20, 2024, 13:05 |
I have not tried Mosaic myself, but based on when it was released, my guess is that it does not send an HTTP Host: header when making a request. If so, it means that virtual-hosted sites or sites running a server that depends on the Host: header will not work. (If Mosaic supported using proxies, that might get around this issue, but I would guess it does not have proxy support either.) |

Development / Re: Jabbernaut for m68k new attempts

Quote from: lauland I'm going to look into why the SndNewChannel() call fails, it looks like it might be requiring stereo output and maybe SheepShaver doesn't support that? Apologies if this is too simplistic, but maybe you need to enable sound? https://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11674 |

Operating System / Re: Strange crashes in 7.6.1
April 18, 2024, 12:44 |
For the "disappearing" memory problem after quitting Netscape, there are a couple of utilities that may be useful: Memory Mapper shows a graphical layout of the Mac memory space: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/memory-mapper-15 Mac OS Purge can purge disposable System memory. (The description at the MG does not match the README description that I have.) The README says to run Mac OS Purge after quitting other applications to free up "junk" that may have been left around. http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-os-purge |

Operating System / Re: Invisible MacTCP file in Control Panels (System 7.1)

Thanks, Bolkonskij. I see that Network Software Selector is also in (for example) the open_transport_1.3_gm.sit at http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/open-transport-13-gold-master |

I had a recollection that there was a tool to switch between Open Transport and MacTCP. Wikipedia's Open Transport page says it was a control panel called "Network Software Selector". Perhaps you deleted that in your original "cleaning up operation"? |
