Hardware / Re: Anybody running their (color) Mac in 512x384?
January 14, 2025, 19:29 |
My iMac g3 doesn’t do that setting is os10.3.9 but I can try it in 9.2 to see if it can. Maybe some of Mac II’s on system 7 might, Seb’s IIci would be a good test. I’m also sure the color classic runs color in that resolution. It was a while ago when I used one but from what I remember that was part of the issue with them as you couldn’t play LC games. |

What you trying to do with it, turn your xbox 1 into a ftp server? If i remember the original Xbox was just built from off the shelf PC parts, i believe a pentium III so in theory there’s no reason you can’t use it as an ftp server. Putting os9 on it though would surely need to run through a mac emulator as it’s x86 based. Can’t see why it’s limited to 2gb |

I concur with the Nintendo cube. There were 2 adapters that fitted in a recess underneath. A network or modem versions were sold. Only 8 games worked online, 7 of which were Japanese only. It was to do with Nintendo wanting to maintain quality so they weren’t pushing online. GCM format is used for GameCube emulation or ROMs “GCM typically refers to GameCube Memory files used in emulators like Dolphin for Nintendo GameCube games. It contains a copy of a game disc in its original format”. |

I remember my sisters fella having a newton for receiving jobs from hp (he was a hp engineer) I was fascinated by it. Infrared connection and all. A proper capable pocket device. Do you use yours for anything Wove? That’s a bit like asking if I do anything with my palms, answer not really, I just enjoy playing with them, a few games and a few apps, just because

I always liked the newton, it was a revolutionary product like many early Macintosh machines and was without doubt influential to future products. when Apple was revolutionary it didn’t always hit the mark or make money even if it was a head of its time. Steve Jobs was a savvy man and realized perfecting products was more lucrative than being inventive, think the original Macintosh, iMac, iPod, iPad. None were new ideas but they were perfected. The Macintosh GUI was a perfected xerox product, iMac was a perfected consumer PC, the iPod a perfected MP3, then look at the iPad which is effectively a more modern and perfected Newton for the modern age. It did seem like Steve cut all of the old products partially to spite the board that fired him, but also to re-invent the product line in his own vision. Still the newton did have an untapped potential that wasn’t realized in my opinion but I also get Apple was in financial trouble and needed to be financially viable. I already have a few Palm pilots but still look around eBay for a well priced newton so maybe I’ll get my own one day. |

That’s hilarious, liking the idea though, why not not tried it yet, still need to put network in my se/30. I presume it’ll work in b&w |

Off Topic Discussion / Re: Hello from a iMac G3!
November 17, 2024, 19:17 |
Great machine and still usable. I have a grey 400mhz one. Os 9.2 classic mode and 10.3.9. I brought it as a bridge machine between my se/30 and 2012 iMac and it works really well. I download from my intel iMac, network share with the g3, then Zip drives from g3 to se/30. It’s also a fun games machine. Currently playing descent, tomb raider and age of empires. I even have ms office and photoshop, all work just fine on the g3. It’s a great all rounder and iconic design to boot. I would have liked the blue one myself but the grey one came up for sale locally for only £20. The only issue with mine is the speakers are shot although a route through an amp and speakers so not a top priority at the moment. |

Hardware / Re: I'm back! (almost) it's been a minute! Might Win QuickCams work on Classic Macs?
November 06, 2024, 20:54 |
Yes that was probably what I remember. Thought as much, a load of money. If it’s serial camera you could get big mess of wires usb to abd converter and get any low end pc camera from 2000s I suppose but you would need some software to use it, one where you can select port. I would love to try in a compact Mac in b&w. I’ll look it up. |

Hey guys, didn’t Apple make a camera? They’re probably rare as hens teeth though. Maybe some abd converter might be out there. I’ll have a look:) |

1.) Why did the classic Macintosh computer always get invited to parties? Because it never crashed the fun! 2.) Why did the SE/30 refuse to join modern computer club? Because it couldn’t handle all the color. |
