1 Hardware / Re: a bit of hardware archiology

Hi,
Actually there were upgrade cards, check this :
https://youtu.be/IpNp6PzNDwg
It's a Sonnet 500Mhz, but I think other companies did some as well, maybe at 400 Mhz.
So maybe you the lucky owner of one of these rare cards.
Edit : Though I can't find a 400 Mhz card in this list :
https://everymac.com/upgrade_cards/by_system/powerbook_g3.html

But also remember reading about the occurrence of a Wallstreet system info reporting wrong CPU speed, 400 Mhz. Can't remember what was the problem but if it is the MaC OS build in System Info giving you that 400 Mhz, may be worth trying with something else, like Gauge Pro :

Thank you Mike :) And welcome!
File corrected, indeed much better double-clickable !

Maybe your .pls file is not in plain text ?...
Download mine here:
http://galgot.free.fr/transit/Fip.pls.sit
Once expanded,
drag "Fip.pls" on the small rectangle on top-right side of the MpegDec window,
should stream Fip radio station. May take 2-3 sec to connect to the stream.
To change the radio, open "Fip.pls" with BBEdit (in BBEdit -> open, then make sure "Show -> any Files" is selected), and change the Fip stream address to the one you like.
Hope this can help.

I've watched this :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=oadgHhdgRkI
It goes far of topic and it's a long video (the whole thing is fascinating tho), but check at about 26:00. Our brain started shrinking about 20000 years ago, because of appearance of more advanced social structures. Social structure brings more secure environment, thus less need for our evolution to "create" bigger brains, with more processing power, to cope with less secure environment.

Hi @Bolkonskij !
I specified Lynx/MacLynx cause I know on these the ASCIIs are not messed up at least.
Someone (DroneCatcher on MacRumor) showed me the page in TurboGopher, and the spaces didn't show, was all readable but all "page" layout was messed up.
But if it worked for you , all fine :)
Some earlier WWW browsers could browse Gopher too, like IE...

But I find MacLynx on a System 7 is the best for it, note if you have GraphicConverter installed, it even open images linked in the gopher hole with it. Very cool.

Sure , now that I've been working on it , I have other ideas of things to add, like maybe my fav Mac OS apps with links to their pages on the MacGarden. Note there are already 3 Figlets MacOS apps to download in the Files section.

One can even browse Hackers News in Gopher :

Glad you enjoyed the visit Wove.
Like "Web 1.0" websites for old computer, there is also renewed interest for Gopher .
Check out C.Kaiser's Gopher at Floodgap.com, where he list all new Gopher holes around :
gopher://gopher.floodgap.com:70/1/new
There is even a Gopher search engine.

And thanks, didn't know there was a gopher client for iPad !

Hi, maybe this will be of some interest here.
I've set up a Gopher server on my emulated System 7.5.3. It was already serving a HTTP site, but I've also "updated" this one to be browsable on iCab 2.9.
You may point your Gopher client (Lynx or MacLynx are best) here :
gopher://galgot.hd.free.fr
Main content is documenting how Iv'e set up the thing, as I had not idea what else to put in there ...
Some things don't work properly yet in the Links "page", NetPresenz is very picky with HTTP links, Have to figure out how to make this work. But after throughout testing, I find other things run pretty well.
Documenting is almost done, still have to finish the NetPresenz part, hope it can be interesting.
Doing ASCII art was the fun part of this...
The HTTP website address is :
http://galgot.hd.free.fr
Not much change from the previous one, You can make a screenshot of the server, there is now a link to the Gopher hole, and few Mac related links added.

Good subject to wake up a forum :p

I don’t know… I feel this idea that we have less and less social interaction is false.
It is inevitable that we have more social interactions now just for the fact that from 1970 to now , world population went from 3.7 billions to 7.9 billions. So especially if one live in a city, where population increased the most… its inevitable that one sees more peoples than in the 1970s.
The way to interact changed a lot too. With lot of pressure added.

Was looking at pictures of Paris in the 1960's the other day, it is striking how clearly fewer people are in the streets.
And I suppose this goes the same for any big cities.

I think the way some groups of people tend to less socialize , or cut ties with others (young Japanese, can’t remember how they are called there, but it happens more and more in other countries too) is a way to escape that inevitable increased social interaction, that due to increase of people became more and more complex and difficult to manage. So they stay in their own bubble.

As for learning things, I love our times (for many other things I don’t). Learning things have never been so easy (I mean, for the things I can understand :p )
Watching a tutorial on Youtube is still kind of a social interaction. not real time sure.

Anyways, dunno if I'm on topic... just my 2€ cents.
13 Operating System / Re: Mac OS 7.7 pre-release version surfaced
June 26, 2022, 15:03
Seem It as been installed on 68k machines :
https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/macos-7-7-prototype-drive-imaging.41271/page-5
this is the original thread on 68kmla.

Looks like the original system on the imaged disk was installed on a PPC machine, so maybe that's why I can't boot it on BasiliskII. It must have installed PPC only stuff during install...
Other than that, dunno sorry :) I've not played enough with it.
14 Operating System / Re: Mac OS 7.7 pre-release version surfaced

Booted it in SheepShaver, and it worked (the screenshot on MG is mine).
Platinum is default appearance, so looks a lot like Mac OS8, though some icons are still Syst 7 like.
The Desktop Pattern Ctrl Panel buttons are ... strange :) There is lot of stuff on this image disk, some dev stuff that I have no idea what they are used for... And a folder with apparently the complete installer for 7.7 . So should be possible to make a clean install.

Tried boot it in BasiliskII using different roms, without success. Got the MacOS splash screen, then extensions loading, but after that was going straight to debugger (MacBugs ?), but couldn't type anything. So mounted it as a spare drive in another BasiliskII system and moved MacBugs to the desktop. Still no joy, freezes after the extension loads.
