1 Development / Help building a PPC INIT with MPW

A lot of times the docs will have the examples in Pascal, and to the end of the document they will have a C reference to the listed function calls.
2 Development / Need a Macintosh Programmer

Ok, the friend I loaned all of my mac programing books to still has them, and I'm getting them back sometime this weekend. I don't remember all of what I had, but I think I had some of the "Deep Magic" hardware books internal to Apple. If someone wouldn't mind sending the source code my way, I'll take a look.
3 Hardware / ATA-6 drive in a 1400c

I will say this, the performance of almost everything is dramatically faster. MPW starts in about 1 second, IE 5.1 in about 4 (no internet connection here at work, so I can't speak as to browsing times). Opera 5 in about 9.

Actually, I can't put 7.6.1 on it. I'd need to create a partition at the beginning of the disk, and the beginning of the disk is corrupt (this started as an experiment to see if I could even see the drive, being ATA-6). I'm running 9 on a partition 10gb in to the disk. I might be getting another ata-6 drive from a friend this weekend, I'll post results for 7.6.1 if I do.

Contrary to what is posted on Low End Mac, I have it working. I have a 60gb Hitachi Travelstar running on my PB (ah, 8mb cache is so much better than 512k). I would assume it's negotiated down to ATA-5, but the language on LEM dosn't suggest that would happen.

Thanks dmac!

I found that the other day, NuCache and the NuPower System Update seem to have done the trick.

Yes, this is currently my only mac. Everything else I have is running some form of Linux. I admit not running 7 might be a bit of a contradiction, but this site seems to be one of the last bastions for pre-osx mac os.

Consequently, I have a 400MHz PC laptop with 196Meg of RAM that I got for free, which is my Linux experiment machine, and even the 16Meg/117MHz PB 1400 with system 7 outruns ANY system that I have installed on it so far, and is FAR more functional in terms of being a viable modern desktop since anything over Windows 98 won't run properly on it because of the lack of proper drivers.

RISC over CISC. I gave my wife my D(H)ell XPS m140 and got a 1400 instead.

Hi, I'm new to the list. Since I have a 1400cs I thought I'd chime in. I've got 64mb ram, a 6gb disk, a NuPowr 180Mhz 603ev (btw, if anyone has the drivers or a link to them for this, I'd be grateful), and a Orinoco Silver card. I'm running 9.1 but I might drop down to 8.6 (I need carbon). If you can't tell from the subject, I'm a programmer, and I just found my old MPW notes from back when I wrote code on a Duo 280c, so I might be making some new apps soon, who knows.
