I'm struggling with those levels containing conveyor belts where you need the right timing to jump off and back on quickly. Are you using mouse or keyboard @Byte Knight? And how many levels have you skipped? ;-)

I actually completed all the levels within the allowed time, but I had to ask the programmer (on 68kmla) for some hints to get through a few of the levels.  And I'm an old-school keyboarder, even for Marathon!

Cool game - haven't had this much fun on a vintage Mac in quite a long time!

Thanks!  Just uploaded the v0.28 rom set.

Using the Hotline Server here, I was able to piece together about 166 working roms for MacMAME 0.28!  They're available for download from the CQ AppleTalk file server at afp://cqbbs.ddns.net if anyone is interested.

In the process I discovered that MacMAME 0.33b3 also runs in System 7 on my 6100 and it has 500+ games for it!  Those individual roms are on the System 7 Today Hotline Server, but not in one big compressed file.  I asked admin to compress them all up into one file so we'll see what happens...

5 Emulation / MacMame 0.28 Rom Set?
January 04, 2025, 23:50
While playing around with MacPortrait and my Dell P1917s LCD rotating monitor, I thought it would be cool to see how vertically-oriented arcade games would look on it. Bottom line is that they look awesome in MacMAME 0.28, which is the last version compatible with System 7.

I was able to find a rom set for 0.8 and 0.37b5 from archive.org and combined the working roms into one set of 93 games compatible with MacMAME 0.28. Unfortunately I can't find working roms of some of my favorites like Burgertime, Discs of Tron, Galaga, Jungle Hunt, Popeye, Wizard of Wor, and Xevious.  Anyone have a full working rom set for version 0.28?

Thanks in advance!

The downside is - there is no WWW, there is no Hotline. BBSing is straight down to classic Telnet, no fancy ANSI colour support.

You could use ZTerm with a wifi modem to get ANSI emulation!

From Paul Rickards:

I put up a hosted version of my extremely simple Macintosh Garden FTP Search site. Super simple HTML and short result pages. Should be useful if you want to download items from Macintosh Garden directly to your Internet enabled classic Mac!

ClarisWorks (V4 and earlier) had a telecom module that used the Mac Communication ToolBox, which surfaced in System 6.0.5. The Communication Toolbox is also used by HyperCard, and OpenDoc.
I love playing around with old terminal programs, so I'll have to check this one out.

It looks like you figured out how to sign on to the BBS.  And it's "P" in the forums to post a message. :)

Duluth is one fine town. I live down in St. Peter. Minnesota did have some good bbs back in the day. Mankato had a huge one that was very popular, but you had to pay to join. I use to call into one in St. Cloud, which catered to about everyone using anything that could reach it. Alexandria had a fine one as well, but it catered more to Ataris and Amigas and had lots and lots of music files for those machine.
Ok, you're only about 45 min away from me. We had a bunch of BBS's in Duluth including The Grotto, Uncle Dudley's Fun Farm (which my friend crashed), The Vault, and several others I can't remember...

I always used the communications module of ClarisWorks to connect. Being from Minnesota you can no doubt relate to the attitude that, "I spent perfectly good money for a telecom application and I will be damned if I I buy another."
I can definitely relate! I've never tried to BBS through ClarisWorks. Does it support ANSI emulation?

I went to the site listed on page 1 in Cyberdog, I got a bunch of text. I wanted to see if the BBS would work from Cyberdog's built in telnet, but did not see any connection information.
The BBS looks awful without ANSI emulation, so your best telnet terminal options are Black Night, MacSSH, ProTERM Mac 1.5, and Public Address Stripped (which I just recently discovered).

I noticed the text on the site started talking about the first setup in Northern Minnesota. I am a Minnesotan and it is nice to see someone on the forum who knows where that is.
Cool! I grew up in the Duluth area and now live west of the Twin Cities. Where are you at?

Really? iCab 2.9.9 is supported? :-D

I should've said modern browser... :)

BTW, I've added a bunch of Happle ezine issues to the Text Files section of the BBS. These 90's Mac underground files on hacking just about everything are a blast to read - check 'em out!
