1 Classifieds / Power Mac gone, but its memory lives on
June 07, 2010, 22:16
Hi, well the Power Mac had to make the trip down the river. But I pulled all the RAM. There was 320 MB total. Compatible RAM for the Power Mac 8600/300 is DRAM of the FPM type, 168 pin DIMM. I'm assuming all the RAM I pulled fits this, though I can't say for sure. But it certainly works. Check here for some pictures I uploaded for you folks: uvm.edu/~dplynch     Then click on the folder "RAM, Mac OS, and Apple Hard Drive"

3 sticks of  Kingston KTA604, 64MB each. All three for $12, or $6 each.

3 sticks of IBM, 32 MB each. All three for $8, or $4 each.

2 sticks unknown brand, 16 MB each. $5 for both.
Free shipping for RAM.

Additionally, I  have a 1GB, Apple SCSI hard drive, 50 pin, $12 and $3 shipping. Mac OS 7.6.1 is installed, with many of the updates from System 7 Today, such as Open Transport, etc. for internet access.

Also, Mac 7.6.1 install CDs with all booklets and instructions. $5 + 5 shipping

Hope this will be of use to some of you!

Hi everyone, well sadly I need to say goodbye to this computer. I've placed the ad on Craigslist, but thought I should here too. It has 7.6.1 with most of the updates from this website (system 7 today). If you check out the pictures at craigslist, you can see that it has over 300mb ram. You would be getting VGA adapter, MAC 7.6.1 install disks, keyboard and mouse. Plese see the pictures at craigslist. Go to Craigslist Vermont and search 'vintage power mac'
Thanks,
Dan

Hi guys, I tried the laser writer 8.6 installer linked on system7today's website and I'm still getting the same error: "cannot run without desktop printer extension, either enable it or reinstall it."

I've tried everything I can think of, from reinstalling the desktop printing extension, reinstalling the laser writer 8.6 software, going into extensions manager control panel for enabling, disabling, re-enabling, restarting the OS, etc.

Note: I have gotten OS 7.6.1 and OS X file sharing to work and have installed all updates.

Do you guys have any ideas what could be the problem?

Sincerely,

Dan Lynch

Hey Bill, thanks for the response, sorry I meant to say that while I did find laser writer8.6 on apple's website,  after installation of the software, I'm having trouble setting it laserwriter 8 as the desktop printer. The error I got is in my original post. (I was sure to download laserwriter 8.6, and not 8.6.1)

Hello,

I'm  writing this from a power mac 8600/300, and this website has been really helpful getting up and running. I'm currently working on the printer sharing with OS X (10.4). WHen I double click on 'desktop printer utility' in the 'apple laser writer folder' in apple extras I get a blip about how it will not run without 'desktop printer extension, you may need to reenable it from Extensions Manager contro panel or reinstall it.'

I've checked that it's enabled and I've reinstalled the laserwriter 8.6 software. I'm running 7.6.1, I've installed open transport from the updates on this site. However, the laserwriter 8.6 software came from Apple's website; I could not find the laserwriter 8.6update on system7today.

Just wondering if you have any ideas.

Sincerely,
Dan
