My most current macs are a Powermac G5 1.8 Ghz single processor tower and a Powerbook G4 15inch 1.25 Ghz processor. Both are nice computers, are a little slow for some applications, but they do the job for most of the things i do. Turning off the dashboard in Leopard seemed to help a bit. I have Tiger installed on the second hard drive in my G5. I have a video capture board in my G5 that the software only works in Tiger. Its pretty cool. I want to install Panther on both computers, Panther makes my G4 laptop run very fast (tried it once). I'll do a dual boot for the G5, but maybe do Panther exclusively on the G4 to get the speed boost and sacrifice the Leopard only apps.

Quote from: "Jamie-Jamie" Power Mac G4 "Sawtooth" We put a Sonnet 1 Ghz in one of these and upped the RAM. I runs Tiger really well and well, Classic, it just flies.

It depends on your definition... I have my primary machine, an early 2006 MacBook Pro with a 2.0 GHz Core Duo, 2 GB RAM, and 256 MB Radeon X1600. Then we have my wife's primary machine, a mid 2006 black MacBook, also with a 2.0 GHz Core Duo and 2 GB of RAM, but with Intel GMA 950 graphics instead of the Radeon. The MacBook is technically newer, (both were ordered on day of release,) but the MacBook Pro has discrete graphics... And to *REALLY* muddy the waters, Apple has, in the Boot Camp 3.1 update, relegated the Radeon-equipped MacBook Pro to 'obsolete' status, while the Intel GMA-equipped MacBook is still supported! (ATI doesn't provide official support for the Radeon X1600 in Windows 7, while Intel does provide support for GMA 950, I have a feeling that is the only reason the MacBook Pro isn't supported.)

I just got a MacBook Pro. 13 inch with 2.53processor and 4 gb memory. It's nice. I finally got to the point where I got tired of having to find an outlet with my powerbook 1400's. I'll still keep them so I can play my old games, marathon, doom, and a few others. I was using it weekly or more as of last week. With the ppc starting to loose support, I also just wanted a new Mac. It's been 5 years. This is now number 8 and I still have all of my Macs and they all work.

If you do some serious desktop work, get a keyboard, mouse and second monitor for it.It makes the laptop really good for extended periods, plus it keeps it in pristine condition. You put the laptop up on a small stand (I use cut off patio furniture for this) to bring the laptop up level with the bottom of the monitor. As for the PB 1400. I use mine as my kitchen and cafe cruiser. It's just "Handy". Most times running 8.6 for net stuff and Appleworks 6 so I can shufle files between it and the modern machine. I go to 7.6 for local stuff and to make it run faster for those things. You can get a new battery for the 1400 at Wegener's. It seemed to be cheaper than trying to repack the existing or very close to the same price.

As for a new battery, I'll get one from Batteries Plus. It's local and about the same price -shipping. I'll still use the mini for daily use, it has all of my adobe stuff on it. I still love my 1400, but it's limited in what I want to do, not be plugged in.

About a week ago, I purchased an iBook SE Graphite off of eBay for $32. It is dead stock...except for having OSX 10.0.4 on it. The Apple Store at the Walden Galeria checked it thoroughly (for FREE, I might add) and it passed with flying colors.

You should replace dreadful 10.0.x with Mac OS 9 which is far better suited to that machine's limited capabilities.
