1 Software / What is a good Internet MP3 Streaming Application for OS 7?
June 25, 2006, 06:14
I have done some reasearch and also found that mpeg dec works. A good place to go to get streaming files is shout cast. I think they are a  *.pls file. All you have to do is control click in Mac OS 8.6 or OS X and you can dowload the file with that extension. It works with itunes, real player and mpegdec. Once you find a internet radio station you like. I use it because when you want to listen to a certain kind of music, they play othe songs for you. Also , on a small hard drive you only have so much room for mp3's.

I came across an article on Low End Mac about an internal scsi to compact flash adapter. It fits in an internal 3.5 inch drive bay.

This would be great for a PowerMac Such as the 8100 that Dan Palka is using for testing.

5 Classifieds / 466mhz PowerBook 1400 G3 Processor For Sale
June 05, 2006, 02:01
The upgrade is great. I bought a powerbook 1400c with a 117mhz processor. I can tell a big difference. The only problem is that the cd drive does not work. I don't have a 7.6.1 cd. I was thinking of buying a powerbook 1400cs with 7.6.1 already installed and copying the startup disk  with a pcmcia adapter to compact flash.
6 Off Topic Discussion / What do you think about the New Store in NewYork?
May 21, 2006, 03:46
What do you think about the new store in NewYork? It is a Glass Cube.  Kind of reminds me of the Cube G4.

The store is underground and there is glass above the ground with a white Apple logo hangind down.

A good way to increase traffic was that they gave away a new macbook every hour for 24 hours.

Also it is the first store to be open 24hr/7days a week.

11 Software / What is a good Internet MP3 Streaming Application for OS 7?
May 06, 2006, 14:18
I don't believe so. I have used real player with OS 8.6 and it works. ShoutCasts are free Internet Streaming Stations. The extension of (*.pls). It is only built into to iTunes version 2 and above for apple products.

Just wanted to know if there is a System 7 application that will do this.  I think RealPlayer 7 is the latest that can be used with Mac OS 7.6.1
12 Software / Productivity App of Choice?

I oringinal wanted to get a PowerBook 2400c and put a solid state drive in it so it would run silent.

Please document your findings on the PowerBook 2400c if you decide to go with it.

I have been loking on eBay and the PowerBook 2400c is rare. The G3 upgrade card is even harder to find. Good luck in your System 7 adventures.

What are you thinking about buying?

A G5 Dual for a desktop replacement?

What kind of portable are you thinking about  using in the future?

You mentioned that you would like to get a Powerbook 2400c.
14 Software / Productivity App of Choice?

System 7 Today is correct. If you use all the productivity apps of 1997 today.

I think what makes the operating system useful is the performance upgrades that you have in your PowerBook 1400c with the G3 upgrade.

Kind of like a Palm OS TX with a 333MHZ processor and a small operating system, but with more powerful applications such as Adobe, Quark, Microsoft.

Would not be as much fun if you used a standard 166MHZ PowerBook.
15 Software / What is a good Internet MP3 Streaming Application for OS 7?
May 06, 2006, 04:41
What is a good internet streaming application for OS 7? Since most OS 7 era systems have small hard drives internet streaming would reduce the number of songs that would have to be stored on the hard drive to enjoy mulitple genre of music.

I  know you could just take a bunch of cd's and listen to them, but less to carry around.
