Hello everyone!

I've not been super active here, but you've likely seen me as a long-time and active contributor to the Garden. I've decided to branch out into vintage electronic repair. Not just vintage Macs (though they're always welcome!), but also video game consoles, cartridges, controllers, keyboards, and the like. I'm comfortable from recapping to trace repair. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, check out my Craig's List ad for a full list of services and pricing.

I'm mostly looking for local customers here in Los Angeles, but if you're willing to ship, I'm happy to work with you. If you have any questions, feel free to reply here, or you can DM me, including on the Garden (Lilliputian), 68kMLA (iesca), or on TinkerDifferent (Lilliputian).

Looking forward to helping people out! :)

Good read! And good on Apple for letting something go, if a bit late, haha.

And here's a thread from 68kMLA where someone does a teardown of a Rev. C card cage (and later in the thread, Rev. B):

These things tend to go for a ridiculous amount, especially the Rev. C version, which is the one you need in order to use the WiFi cards. Given how much people out there seem to be willing to shell out for them, I regard them as a curiosity rather than a necessity, and so unless one happens to fall into my lap somehow, my own 540c will remain card cage-less!

Wonderful seeing yet more new software for the venerable System 6!

Fascinating addition! I'm not a developer, but I could imagine this could come in handy if an app was misbehaving somehow.
11 Software / Re: System 7 bug I have never come across ...

I remember moving a folder around once as a kid on our home computer and having it just... disappear. I was quite sad as it was Kid Pix! Haha.

I looked all around the drive for it. Maybe I just didn't look in the right place. Or maybe it was a victim of the folder disappearing bug. But I'm pretty sure I would have tried Fast Find to try and search for it...
12 Hardware / Re: Resurrecting an iMac G3 (no boot)
August 08, 2022, 23:40
Also: You may need to replace the PRAM battery and reset the PMU (a tiny button near the battery holder; replace the battery, then press, but not too long. More details on that are in the Service Source manual.) But the main thing is just leaving it plugged in for a week or so.

Leave it plugged in for several days and see if it brings it back to life. This is a common issue with iMac G3s and this method (first proposed to me by someone on the Mac Garden discord) worked to revive three iMac G3 DV SEs that came into my possession.
14 New Member Welcome / Re: MACOS 8.6 Performa 6360
June 19, 2022, 21:31
The 6360 was our family computer for quite awhile, and was our first to get internet over ethernet! I believe we installed Mac OS 8.6 at some point on that machine, but we started off with the default installation (7.5.1), the discs for which I still have in that red plastic booklet that came with it (though the machine is long gone, sadly).

It was a great little computer.

Recapped, as in replacing the capacitors.
