Does anybody have the toast_413_dlx_updater.hqx file or a working download link? Roxio and Adaptec pulled the Toast 3 and Toast 4 support files from their web and ftp servers. I called Roxio, but they refuse to answer any questions about Toast 3 or Toast 4. I want the Toast 4.1.3 Deluxe Updater because it is the last release that is compatible with Mac 68k computers. If you need to put a new drive with CD-R or CD-RW capabilities in one of these classic computers, then the Toast driver seems to be necessary. |

Quote from: "dajhorn" Does anybody have the toast_413_dlx_updater.hqx file or a working download link? I have Toast 4.1.1 and until your post was not aware that there was a Toast 4.1.3. According to MacUpDate, the file updater you are asking about is 96KB. According to MacUpDate it does the following: "Adaptec Toast Deluxe 4.1.3 Updater fixes a problem with the automatic Internet track-naming service by pointing requests to www.freedb.org." I am not sure that offers much beyond the earlier version of Toast 4.x. Toast 4.1 mostly fixed bug related to operation with OS 9, which is not necessary for users of 68K Macs. In any event the link provided by MacUpDate points back to Roxio and as you noted support for older versions has vanished. bill

Another system7today reader provided me with the full Toast Deluxe 4.1.2 installation package, which is an improvement over my ancient 4.0 version. (Thanks guys.)

I just installed toast 4.1.? and it installed extensions for usb and firewire support. I went ahead and turned them off But what other extensions could be removed for performance gains?this would make a good help section whats required and whats not.

I just got this copy installed on 7.6 last week. it runs but i have not burned with it yet, Bill said it would work so i bought it. I think this is the last version that will run under 7.6. the box says 8.1 min http://cgi.ebay.com/ADAPTEC-Roxio-Toast-4-Deluxe_W0QQitemZ270105607093QQcategoryZ80252QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And it runs entirely without Appearance Manager? Can you Command + Shift + 3 us all a screenshot? Usually stuff that "requires" 8.1 will have this caveat when run under System 7. Not to discredit Bill, but I just want to be absolutely assured (need to see it).

Dan I am not sure what or why you are asking? I am happy to get a screen shot. Do you want to see toast running or burning to varify operation? Sorry I am not sure what you want.

Actually I already got a screen shot from Bill thanks. I'm asking because I'm not sure which version of Toast to add to the site in the future, 3 or 4. I do not add software to this site that requires Appearance Manager to run. Judging from the screen shots Bill sent me, it does not.

I would vote for V3. It supports 68030 Macs and better. It does not require SCSI Manager 4.3. It works as far back as 7.0. It was last updated in 1999 (V3.5. and also supports firewire and usb burners if look ahead support is also important.bill

i have toast 4.x (i do need to do a DBL check to see the version installed) installed on my Performa 475 running 7.6.1 burns great to the External SCSI LaCie CDRW drive. all i had to do was install Intech CD DVD speedtools 6.0 cause i didn't have the drivers for the external drive to work once i did everything works great. also my P 475 is heavily upgraded full 040 40mhz (still running at 25mhz till i change the surface mount resistors around), 132mb ram, 1.2gb HDD, 1mb vram, apple Lc PDS ethernet, and the burner. so its capable of doing things it could not in its stock config. before i bought this drive i was leery on if a 68k Mac was able to burn a cd rom. but all in all it works great i think i got to burn at 8x anything higher would make the drive freak out or make a coaster

It is nice to read that you have had good success with your P475. Old old Macs built around the 68K processors are quite capable machines. They are also very rugged and dependable machines. bill
