I scare myself right now. Resurrecting age old Java code to make it do stuff on my machine ... stuff I sometimes don't want to know what it is. |

But that's also scary good, I wouldn't even know where such little Java games live! did you get them from the Garden or did they surface from your web 1.0 deep-dive hunts? and the Java player itself, I take it it doesn't come preinstalled with any particular Mac browsers (those IIRC were more the realm off Sun MS way back then sometime in the mid-nineties, right?) I know that things like Java didn't exist in the pre-Internet era, which is when 68k Macs shortly became extinct and PPC Macs started roaming the Earth..

The Java magic comes from JBindery. You just got to figure out how it wurks and then its pretty ez. The Java apps and games themselves I got from .... heaven where did all those nights go? Well, to be honest, most I sneaked from Hobbes. The remainder, I found somewhere-if-I-could-only-remember-where.

Now your just starting to sound like our good ol' cuz, Adespoton with that last 'somewhere-if-I-could-only-remember-where' bit! lol actually, I can't wait for you to open your own Mac abandonware shop, even if it's all in gopher, newslist, Hotline server, or some other type of Usenet or a torrent-a-la-Archive.org carbon copy, I'll be your first (even paid) customer! that goes for all our Mac sites, tbh, if nothing else, simply because I know I'll never be able to repay all of the awesome goodwill and honest camaraderie I've always found in these Mac-haunts

Well, Adespoton was my inspiration for that. ![]() Just had really bad setback with AccountBuddy on the Garden. Such a nifty piece of software, yet the author demanded it be taken down. He's rather gonna have it die in obscurity, than keep it living in the wild. That idea of his to resurrect age old shareware into today's market: He's gonna have to rewrite the whole damn thing to make it compatible with present day operating systems. I highly doubt that even his old IDE would still run on a modern day Mac or Windoze machine. Why are people like that? For me its like the proverbial jealous ex-boyfriend who'd rather kill "his woman" than have her experience love with somebody else. Just sad:

That's really awesome 68040! I'm happy to hear how well your upgrade and TLC has benefited your Macs. I used to customize the look and feel of my computers, and it seemed all it did was slow them down. Disclaimer: it was back on Windows XP. Does customizing your Mac with heavy UI mods slow it down or have any effect on performance? And yes, I completely agree with you about software. Keep it alive, instead of making it die just because you can't get rich off it. So sad and pathetic.
