Hey, here's an archive.org web capture (modern browser needed) of an old page showing the link of the article I remembered we had for shared OS X printing.

Do we still have access to this article or did anyone save it anywhere? I looked for it in our how to pages but didn't see it anywhere :(

If not, it'd still be nice to see what steps System 7 users can take to print to modern printers and add a write-up here :) I know there's some how-to's online but I'm not sure if they cover System-7-specific-to-modern-printer printing.

Hmmm... I tried to locate that article on archive.org from my smartphone but if I click on How-to and the article link I end up on a archive.org white page.

That said, I'm not aware of that article. And I can't remember that we'd deleted an article from the archive. But I still have a full backup from 2020 and will double-check.

I know it says "printing" but couldn't it be the article on OSX File Sharing? I know that Knezzen updated it considerably (it was in dire need)

In 2021 I wrote an article about postcript printing from my 8600 because there wasn't any yet. I don't think I would have done that if there already was one. Odd. But good catch, cballero! I'll investigate :)

Thanks! :)

For a second I was like, "oh no! that was a really good article", especially when you have a good mix of Macs at home. It detailed some pretty neat tricks to have the newer Mac act as a surrogate and you simply print to a particular (newer) version of the LaserWriter driver, version 8.5.1 seems to be echoing in my mind and it made printing to newer (I want to say PostScript-compatible?) printers from System 7 a real breeze, so yet another neat option in the toolbox. I believe the driver was even available from the S7T website, but it's been a good while since I went through the write-up.. I simply assumed it was there until I looked around and found nothing! :o

The links you gave are really good though, thanks for those as well ;)

cballero: Is this the one?

If it is, we could just add an updated version to our tutorials section. I don't remember it from before and me and Bolkonskij haven't removed anything when got handed S7T from Dan.

Good catch @Knezzen. I've re-added it, but haven't linked it anyway. Everybody please have a look.

I wonder why Dan dropped it from the website. Maybe it was by accident during a redesign. Or he felt the info was outdated?

I don't have a USB printer. Anyone among you guys who could test this tutorial?

Awesome work, guys!!! 8)

And yes, I remember testing this configuration when I had a working eMac running Tiger (unofficially imaged at a local Apple store at the time around 2005) and was able to print from a Classic Mac at the time. It was absolutely fantastic, which is why I remembered it from so long ago! :D
