Doesn't seem to be working on my end. Should I clear my cache or cookies or something?

Yeah, try clearing browser cache and cookies.
Have been trying to fix the "Broken Pipe" error in Netscape on 68k.
It only happens on slower machines though. My PowerBook 540c works just fine to log in using Netscape for some reason.

This error is Netscape specific. I'm writing this in Internet Explorer 4.01 on my SE/30 and iCab 2.9.9 works fine to access the site with as well. Will try fixing the Netscape issues of course, but if you want to post in the forums with your 68k machine RIGHT NOW, then iCab and IE is the way to go. And IE is the fastest of the two (sorry Bolkonskij) ;).

There's an option to clear cache in Netscape but I don't see a cookies thing. I deleted a file called MagicCokies in Netscape's folder though. Doesn't seem to be working.

If I post with Netscape 4.8 (iCab is fine) the message displays with a random character or two at the end. I see some evidence of this earlier in the thread. What will the character be this time I wonder...

Today using "Search" I was hit by the Clean Talk spam patrol !

I haven't used S7T's search very often and it has worked for me in the past, but I also got hit by Clean Talk a little while back when using Basilisk II and running a search. I dismissed that one as being a B2 anomaly. Today though, I was using a fairly modern browser, and not under emulation...

So wondering why, while viewing the site and posting this off, poses no problem ?

I mean it's kind of odd that Clean Talk clamps down on searches...

...and wouldn't you know it. Now I've forgotten what it was I was going to search for :P

MTT: Are you unable to do a new search if you try again right after you get that message? When I somehow triggered that very message I could just do a new search right away and it worked.

Will look into tuning the settings regardless :)

I tried a new search and immediately after the rejection, I tried again and it erred again. This time with a different notice.

It complained that I was using a VPN which was on its banned list.

Tried the search again (twice) just now, in-between typing this out and posting, and it pops up the same error message as in the screenshot via my previous post, nothing about my dastardly VPN use this time...

Weird how I'm allowed to be logged in and can post without any complaint - but try to use the search feature and it goes all net-nanny on me :P

Seems it was likely the VPN I was using that it didn't like. Unless you fixed something, Knezzen :)

I've switched to another VPN and I can use the search feature without complaint. All is working here now.

And I've remembered what it was I was wanting to search for ! :D

Oh dammit. Now I'm getting that search block constantly, no matter how many times I try to refresh the request.

And I'm not using a VPN this time.

Raw vanilla connection. Browser is Camino 2.1.2 and OS is Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

This time the error message is worded differently, it now tells me that I need to turn Javascript on, I'm using a VPN and that my IP is dodgy.

Javascript is on... I'm not using a VPN and it's prejudging my IP address incorrectly.

What I don't get, is why it balks on searches, a non injecting task, while I'm free to log in, post and edit my own posts.

I think "Clean Talk" would rather be living in a "modern" non S7T world. :P

Hm.... I'll have to look into it a bit more, I guess.
CleanTalk is what keeps the bots away, so it's pretty much a necessity :(

That certainly fixes my problem with search. :D

Thank you very much, Knezzen.

I was exploring System7 gopher space this morning, using Gophie on OS X. I navigated to the goodies section an was looking at the Origami, specifically the Quadra 840. When I selected the pdf link for it I got a "connection refused".

I did not know System7 had Origamis. It was an exceptionally nice surprise. I love that stuff and have lots of little origamis siting about on my desk and shelves. Snagging them via Gopher would be a real smile inducing treat. :)

Interstingly enough, it looks like Gophie doesn't understand the "P" (as in PDF) item type for some reason. All Origami download and open just fine on my TiBook when using Netscape 3, Classilla and TurboGopher but sure enough gives me a "Connection refused" error in Gophie on my MacBook Air.

I will chamge the item type to generic binary (9) and see if this solves the problem. I will also reach out to the Gophie devs to have this looked at.

Thanks for the heads up, wove! :)

Cyberdog's built in Gopher client picks up the pdf fine. Only problem I had with that was realizing that I did not have a pdf viewer installed, so I had to install one.

I tried again last evening with Gophie and the connection refused remained. So I am guessing the problem resides with Gophie. Of course there is no problem downloading the pdf with a browser. It is very nice to use with System 7 software, but it is also very nice to have the older methods getting software for newer OSes too.

It is often a toss up between whether you miss the workflow and applications of system 7 or are simply missing the Gopher and BBS that were such a part of that time.
