Hello ! It seems that the hardware specific system CDs i have won't do the trick; --- now i got system 9.n CDs for iMac and iBook, and the same symptoms = they do not see the internal IDE drive of this 1400cs because they seem not to support NUBUS --- what should i do - i don't know that many Mac owners and hunting 7.6.1 at eBay may just be too difficult --- Mac is also rather rare in Finland .... /mc |

First many thanks for your comments ! i would be grateful if i'd find a floppy to boot to say 7.5.3 or 7.6.1 with some disk tools on it !!! /mc |

1) the 7.6.1 does not boot but gives an error message of an invalid command and tells me to disable extencions and try again - there is something on this on this forum, but cd is a copy and don't know if it is for some specific model .... 2) i've tried disk first aid and disk repair that are on 8.n.n CDs i have ( G3 beige and iMac installation CDs that do boot ) but they do not see the internal IDE drive of the 1400cs but only the SCSI CD drive and floppy drive if there's a floppy in it 3) i try to get some extra installation CDs tomorrow, sunday, from my friend /mc |

Hardware / how to install system on 1400cs/166 with only a floppy drive

Hello ! i regently got my hands on two 1440cs/166 w 64Mb and 1.3Gb Unfortunately the hd's are totally wiped - and now i wonder how to install a system. I even bought an external SCSI CD drive and suitable adapters and am able to boot some system 8 installation CD from the CD drive, but unable to install. The CDs i've tried are 1) G3 beige system 8 installation disk 2) iMac system 8.5.5 installation disk and 3) 7.6.1 installation CD ( which does not boot but gives an error message ). After booting the system 8.n installation CD i'm able to use the installer, but not able to install as the installer does not see the HD of the 1400cs - WHY ? What to do ? Ideas ? Thanks ! /mc |
