Hardware / Does it lock up? Every time!
June 01, 2007, 03:52 |
Quote from: "dpaanlka" Does it lock up when recording smaller video? I've tried transferring some of my old VHS recordings (cartoons, mostly) using my 5500/250 (128 MB RAM, 20 GB 7200 RPM HD, Apple TV tuner card w/ A/V modules), with VCR plugged into TV tuner, later tried through A/V jacks. Resolution at 320x240, 240x160, no compression (figuring the compression would take extra CPU cycles that it might not be able to spare. The 5500/250 locks up every time, if I try to record more than about 20-30 seconds of video. Obviously, trying to record a 20 minute (as long as I'm having to stop recording every 30 seconds, anyway, I might as well edit the commercials out) TV show would be an exercise in patience, and require QT Pro to seem the resultant 40+ elements together. I've tried System 7.6.1, OS 8.6, and OS 9.1. I considered purchasing a G3/500 upgrade, to see if the processor is just not up to it. I've tried using a Firewire 400 card, but the 5500 doesn't boot at all with it installed. |

Classifieds / Highest speed 604 and shipping
May 31, 2007, 16:16 |
Highest speed 604? The fastest I still have laying around is probably the bag-full of 604e/225's that (so-far-as-I-know) only work in one model of clone, and I've forgotten what it is. I don't have time to do any more box-&-ship; anything that doesn't get picked up is (if it is small enough) going into a small long-term-storage, or else going to the city dump. I posted the same offer to LEM Swap a couple of weeks ago, and there were very few serious offers of shipping. My terms were: I would box it and weigh it, and they could buy the shipping online directly from UPS, DHL, FedEx (all have distribution centers locally) or whoever, and e-mail me the shipping label. Other than one G3 and one 6500/275, there were no takers, despite getting the hardware for the cost of shipping it. I'm pretty much out of time now, and just trying to spread the word in case there's anyone close enough to drive over to 3608 S. Polk St. |

Classifieds / You come get it...
May 31, 2007, 01:12 |
I have to move. Soon. I have been collecting Apple odds & ends since 1998. Lost most of my rarer pieces from my collection to theft in 2003, but still have rooms full. Since I'll be working on the road from no permanent address, and don't want a huge storage bill, pretty much if you can come pick it up, it's yours. 5500's, 6500's, several 1xx PowerBooks, ADB keyboards & mice, SCSI scanners and serial port printers, various Performas, an 8550/132, a couple of Apple IIe's, a Mac IIx with max RAM etc., stacks of PCI-mac 604e cards, cables, adapters, software.... Quote from: "ronin" I am still looking for RAM and the adapter for a PB150. could be there doesn't seem to be a way to e-mail you? I have 3 PB 1xx sitting around... a PB 140/145, a 165, and a 170. Oh yeah, and a PB 190, now I think of it (it's right next to me, but I don't have a power adapter for it. So, what's this adapter you're looking for? |

Hardware / Compact Flash PB 1400
May 30, 2007, 23:53 |
I have a PB 1400 with 64 MB RAM & 1 GB HD, and a couple of good batteries. I really like the little machine! Can you tell me what vendor you bought your adapter from? Maybe a link to the auction page, I could then see if s/he has more of the same... so far I've come up dry googling for this. |

Software / After Dark 3 on PowerPC?
May 30, 2007, 23:38 |
Pardon me if I'm wrong, but wasn't AD3 famously 68k-only? It's been years ago, but I seem to remember the same problem you describe, when I first switched from my first Apple (a 68k laptop) to my first Apple desk-machine (a briefly-endured 8100/120). |

Software / PB 1400 battery makes it squeal!
May 30, 2007, 23:33 |
I had an outstanding battery in my PB 1400, it gave me 2-2 1/2 hours life. Then I forgot the PB was plugged into AC for about a month... battery only gave about 30 minutes. So I ran Apple's battery conditioning program, and now if I try to power up with that battery in the 1400, it (the PB) squeels and the screen does bad flickery things. Is there a possibility anyone knows of to bring back this excellent battery? |

New Member Welcome / flash hard drive
May 30, 2007, 23:00 |
I've only recently heard of this. Where do I get the flash drive? I've googled around to no avail, other than the new (and very expensive) 30+ GB SATA models. I have a stack of old 4 MB cards for the PC-card slot, but my Duo 230 doesn't have such a slot, and 4 MB might work for System 6.0.8, but not for System 7.6.1. I remember c. 1999 reading about SCSI 3.5" optical storage hard drives about 4 GB, but they were several hundred dollars at the time. Is this something similar? |
