Off Topic Discussion / The Christmas Loot Thread!
December 18, 2006, 09:26 |
Usually Christmas is not a big deal in our family, since my father is Hindu and so am I. But Christmas is somehow traditional in Germany, so we follow that tradition... For Christmas I'm looking forward to a Mac Picasso 340 from Village Tronic for my Duo Dock II, which is said to be the fastest Nubus Graphics Card beside the Radius Thunder IV GX. I wonder, how many of the people in this Forum will have old Mac stuff lying beneath the Christmas tree... :-) Demyan |

Operating System / Which computer to use to test 7.6.1?
December 05, 2006, 09:36 |
Hi, you don't actually NEED a 200Mhz-Processor to run OS 7.6. I have it on my Performa 475, which runs at 25 Mhz, and it works fine with that 68040. I think, you should install it on the 6500, which I find the coolest machine of them all. The 4400 is not that cool at all: as you said, you need a screw driver to open it, and it uses a cheap PC-box instead of a "real" Mac one. Enjoy your system 7 install :-) Demyan |

Hardware / Powerbook Duo Keyboard
November 29, 2006, 20:10 |
Yeah, that seems to be a good solution! Sadly, in Germany the Duo is a very hard to get machine, and so is the keyboard, especially the German style one, including charakters like ä, ö, ü and ß... Demyan |

Hardware / Powerbook Duo Keyboard
November 29, 2006, 16:36 |
Hi to all Powerbook Duo users, I experienced problems with my Duo 230 and 2300 keyboards: the keys don't react any more, and I have to push them several times until I get a result. I have cleaned the contacts with a cleaning fluid, and now it runs a little bit better - but not very well at all. Does anybody have experience with that sort of problems? Do you have a better solution for cleaning/repairing (e.g. a "super" fluid)? Is there a product on the market to replace that annoying rubber stile keyboard at all? Or do you know of any mod, that could be done? I would die for a good to use Duo Keyboard... :-) Demyan |

Hardware / System 7 with my 7100?
November 29, 2006, 07:56 |
Actually you don't need 19 floppies for 7.5.3. You just have to copy all the images onto your Mac, doubleclick the first one, and it will mount a System 7.5.3 CD-Install. So I suggest, you boot your PM 7100 via your Mac OS 8-CD , copy all the disk images of OS 7.5.3 to your hard disk (you can do that, if you don't have more, with one single floppy), run the first disk image and then install the OS. Let us know, if you were successfull! I suggest, you better get you a copy of Mac OS 7.6 since 7.5.3 is pretty unstable (especially with Internet). Demyan |

Software / Sticky Menus Extension
November 28, 2006, 09:41 |
Actually this is a great extension, that works in almost any cases. I have experienced a few problems with Word 98 using the fonts menu and the menus inside the format dialog window. Also the menus of the Powerbook Control Strip should better be "classically" clicked. |

Hardware / Free Must-Have-Tools for Powerbook Duo Users...
November 26, 2006, 17:10 |
Ah, you lucky one - your batteries are still working! About 1 year ago I took a trip to Asia for 4 weeks, and when I came back, my Duo Battery didn't work anymore. - Even "Deep Discharge" couldn't rescue it, but may be it can help your's (It is part of a system 7 software, but I cannot remember the version...) On the link above there is also "Battery Amnesia" downloadable, a program which I havn't tried, but works with the same procedure. Sadly in Germany the Duo wasn't very popular, so there are only dead batteries on the used market... :-( Demyan |

Hardware / Free Must-Have-Tools for Powerbook Duo Users...
November 26, 2006, 10:11 |
For all using a Powerbook Duo with a Duo Dock, this software ist a must-have: Dockernaut It's a init and cdev combo program that loads different preferences files depending on how/if you duo is docked. You can have e.g. different settings for desktop icon placement or program settings by simply adding the finder's or program's preferences file to the cdev. Dockernaut can even reset your monitor depth depending on which monitor you're hooked to (even with the same dock). This all is useful, if you are using a big monitor with your Duo Dock, but your Desktop is always looking like the 640x400 one on the Powerbook Duo (e.g. the trash icon, launcher and the controlstrip are in the middle of your 19" screen). All in all it's going to make your Duo as intelligent as it should be to handle your hardware... :-) Also works with a monitor connetced to a Mini Dock. Dan, do you think, this is essential enough, to be added to your PB Duo 2300c download page? ;-) If you're still using a trackball Duo, you can assign different function to the two switches of your Duo trackball with Powerclick. You can download these programs (and many more) free from here: http://apple.doit.wisc.edu/mirrors/amug/util/powerbook/?S=A I tried both on a Duo 2300c with System 7.6.1 and it works great. Have fun, Demyan |

Off Topic Discussion / OS 6.0.8L for a PowerBook 100
November 16, 2006, 15:38 |
I installed OS 6.0.8 on a Mac Classic once and it worked fine without any aditional updates. Anyway, I never saw a classic Mac that was not fully supported by the proper system version. Demyan |

System 6.0.8 was a special version for the Classic, Classic II, LC and the PowerBook 100. So I'd suggest: you give it a try! ;-) Download: Disk 1: ftp://ftp.phil.uni-sb.de/pub/mac/system/System_6/608st.sit Disk 2: ftp://ftp.phil.uni-sb.de/pub/mac/system/System_6/608ad.sit Enjoy! Demyan |

Software / SmartScroll and Startup Doubler now free!
November 15, 2006, 19:23 |
Unfortunately not all apps support Smart Scroll. I'm using iCab on my System 7 Mac and it does not show the function although the extension is installed. Maybe the iCab-live-scroll is the reason. I don't know if there's a similar feature in the internet explorer... |

Software / SmartScroll and Startup Doubler now free!
November 15, 2006, 14:37 |
Hi, there, I recently discovered, that those two extensions are now free for classic Mac OS. Download here: http://www.marcmoini.com Scroll down and get the files for Mac OS 7. Smart scroll will provide proportional Scrollbars under System 7 & 8, Startup Doubler will speed up your system start a little bit. I was so happy, I had to post it here... ;-) Demyan |
