E-Mail Central | System 7 e-mail clients

When e-mailing became a mass phenomena at around the mid 90's, the Macintosh was right up there. Many e-mail clients were either written or ported the Macintosh, for both the latest avantgarde PowerPC Macs to old 68k Macs like a Mac Plus.

Yes that is true. Those were the days when you could use your trusty old Mac Plus to send and receive e-mail. Thanks to rigorous SSL requirements and stagnating development of e-mail clients, you can't do that anymore "out of the box".

Contrary to popular belief, however, you can still use your trusty System 7 Mac for e-mail. All you need is a bridge to strip the SSL for you - you can either set this up by yourself by using e.g. a Raspberry Pi and something like MacProxy to do the work for you. Or you can use our free System 7 Today SSL tunnel that does the same thing and handles breaking up the SSL encryption and forwarding your e-mail.

It has been up for several years now and used by a variety of users to send and receive e-mail from their happy beige Macs.

In case you're wondering what e-mail client to use with your System 7 machine, we've look at all of them and compiled a list for you!
