I have an old Mac IIfx I revived from the dead and am trying to get it up on an Ethernet network, through a Linksys router, to an IMAC G3 and an Intel IMAC. The 2fx connects nicely to the G3 (Sys 9.2.2) but attempts to connect to the Intel Imac get the "incompatible afp protocol" message. I installed the Open Door package on the 2fx (Sys 7.5.5) but it won't run without Open transport 1.1.2. So the question is: does anyone have a copy of Open Transport 1.1.2 to share or does it require Sys 7.6? Thanks for any help. |

You can find OT here: http://main.system7today.com/updates.html That "list" is for 7.6.1 but most of that will work with 7.5.5 too. I don't know what "Open Door" is but it isn't necessary to connect to an Intel Mac. What you need is AppleShare Client 3.8.3, also available on that list. I don't know if that will work for 7.5.5 though... I don't think it does.

Thanks for the info. I should have just looked in the help forum. I downloaded OT 1.1.2 and installed but Open Door still can't see it. AppleShare 3.8.3 says it requires Sys 8.1, so I'll just have to get a copy of Sys 7.6. In the meantime, the 2fx connects fine to the Sys 9.2 machine, so I'll just set it up as the server and route any Intel 10.4 files to/from the 2fx through it. Open Door supposedly allows TCP/IP connections as far back as 7.5.5, that's all I know about it.

OpenDoor is the maker of Shareway IP. Shareway IP is not a free solution, but it does with machines going all the way back to System 7.0. A version of Shareway IP is included with OS 9. bill

Quote from: "mac2geezer" AppleShare 3.8.3 says it requires Sys 8.1, so I'll just have to get a copy of Sys 7.6. AppleShare 3.8.3 works fine with 7.6, even if it says it needs 8.1.

Final dumb question on this topic. Apple technical specs say System 7.5.5 was the last supported for the Mac IIfx; has anyone tried 7.6 (or later) on a IIfx? Also, Sppleshare 3.8.3 won't work on 7.5.5, according to the installer. Sigh.

The Mac IIfx is supported by OS 7.6. You should have few problems installing it. You will probably need an external CD ROM. Memory especially lots of it is hard to find for the IIfx. As I recall 7.6 runs in 16MB (12MB min?) but like most of the OSes the more you have the more capable it will be. bill
