For the systems in the os 7 years were mainly scsi. The original macs used scsi-1. If I want to upgrade an old hard drive or add a scsi device do i need to be worried about mixing scsi-1 and scsi-2 devices. As i recall this was not a problem. I am most use to the 25pin connection coming out of the computer and a 50 pin on the external devices. when getting a hard drive how can you make sure they are compatible with your old mac system? I have a new pci scsi card but it has 68 pin scsi can you connect old scsi devices to it? Is their an adapter? |

Hi! Answer to your last question is yes. I've run to 50-68 pin adapters in Ebay when looking for scsi hd's. I would say that all hd's are compatible, but not all pci scsi cards. It's a driver thing, as I've got Adaptec 2906 cards, but can only find drivers for those from 8.x & up. Nothing for 7, so far. Had IDE, USB, Fireware, 68 and 50 pin cards/hd's & external devices all running in a B&W with OS 9.1 and 10.2.8 at the same time, for awhile. No problems. Cheers, wall
