Back during Covid, I've acquired a (then) newly released interactive Fiction game by the name of Hibernated.
It came out in a pretty box for the Macintosh and gameplay was much in the vein of the Infocom classics, so I was excited.
When I got it, I've played it for some time but never being able to beat it. I think I may have reached half-way, but perhaps not even that.

Anyway, it's 2026 now and this box has been looking at me every time I pass it in my office, grumbling "why did you give up? Try me again!"

Well, and so I shall! I'll try to beat Hibernated on my Mac IIci. Finally! In fact, I just started playing it.

The game has been made freely available by now on the Puddle Soft website (and probably itch.io as well).

Anybody wanting to join in and beat the game together as a community project, sharing tips along the way? :)

Is it "Hibernated 1 - Release 13" or "Classic Hibernated 1 from 2018", or something different?

@lauland - this one over here (modern browser needed)

Also, a word of warning. This might be something because I'm not an English native speaker, but the game treats the verb "examine" more like "look at". You need to actually "search XYZ" to find things. At least I had run into one such situation yet.

Anyway, just left my ship for the first time. Not going to spoiler more. Onwards to new discoveries :-) would be cool if you'd join in, @lauland! Anybody else too?

@Bolkonskij, yes, that is the link, but there are TWO different downloads, which I guess are different versions of the game.

Which one are you playing?

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your question. I think the Release 13 is the same game, just with bugfixes. So go for it :-)

Did you get it? Did you get the chance to look into the game?

Trying to write in a non-spoiler way: I've been leaving my ship and went for "exploration". The place where I got to, I have found some interesting stuff. An obscure gem that I have no idea what it does or can do. Apparently I can't analyze it with the lab's computer either.

And then there is one room with a glass slab on the ground, but I can't pick it up. It seems glued to the ground or something. I couldn't figure out how to get Olivia to pick it up, but I'm pretty sure I know what to do with it once I have it. Argh. Any idea?

I downloaded both since I didn't know which one you were playing...wanted to make sure I was playing the same thing.  If you got stuck somewhere, and I was playing a different version we couldn't (necessarily) share ideas!

Now that I do know (we think) will definitely play it and let you know what I find...

Cool! How about we try to finish it *without* any walkthrough and just keep sharing our experience, asking questions, helping with tips? Like a community gaming thing? I'd love to do that!

Perhaps we could get even more people to join up? :)

Well...YEAH...I would only use a walkthrough for when (more likely if) I got stuck someplace!

Not that walkthroughs are bad, but we've got all the time in the world.

I fully agree! It's all about the experience, not how fast we can beat it. (if ever...)

Hey, how about going full old-style? Let's use something like ROT13 for sharing tips and solutions to puzzles? Is there actually some kind of ROT converter for System 7?

I left the ship. And then I just drifted over.
