I've caught the virus. For years, I've been meaning to get into the so-called "gold box" role-playing games by SSI. Call it escapism, but something that proposed getting out of the daily routine. During the 90's, the language barrier kept me off - after the 2000's, the seemingly complicated AD&D ruleset. ("What the heck is a negative Armor class?") Well, I gave this a new try yesterday with the last goldbox RPG to be released on the Mac, back in 1993 - Forgotten Realms:Unlimited Adventures (Mac Garden link). And I've finally been converted. Took a while to understand the interface and certain rules but finally got sucked into high fantasy and spent the entire afternoon until dinner fighting Ettins, collecting XP and unwinding. Great fun! Runs perfectly on the IIci and System 7.1! Anybody else having any hands-on experience with titles like Pools of Radiance, Death Knights of Krynn & others? The last release, Forgotten Realms:Unlimited Adventures, also opened up the game system to modding, for which 100+ user-generated worlds have been generated. Looking for folks interested in investigating and finding the gems among those. Post here if you're interested in sharing experiences and favorite adventures? |

Groups was about to be taken down, I fully archived quite a bunch of groups, and decided to do so for the Forgotten Realms one, just in case, even though I was only really interested in Realmz. If you'd like, I can dig up my old Yahoo! Groups archive. I always meant to share it with everyone anyway, but somehow never got to. I wouldn't mind actually playing Forgotten Realms someday, it honestly seemed potentially quite interesting to me, as well. The reason I didn't is simply that there's also a lot else that I find a lot more interesting (Realmz, Diablo, just about any Squaresoft RPG, lots of all-time JRPG classics etc.).
