It snowed overnight, only a couple cm. This is not the earliest it has ever snow, but I do wish snow would hold off until December. It is not that cold (-2C), but the wind is howling at 40Kmh and it feels rather nasty out. Our dog a Siberian Husky is loving it, laying in a small pile of snow sound asleep. |

I have been all over the upper midwest, but the Great Lakes keep Michigan isolated. The main route from the east coast to Minnesota, stays a few miles south of Michigan, going through Indiana. I was out in New England at one point and took the Canada route over the Great Lakes to get back to Minnesota. When in Ontario I dropped down into the upper peninsula of Michigan, so I could drive across the Mackinac Bridge. I then turned around in Mackinac Michigan and went back across the bridge to continue my journey over the north side of the Great Lakes. That is the only time I have been in Michigan. So all I know of Michigan is they have one hell of a nice bridge.

I visited Mackinac Bridge site this morning for nostalgia reasons and I noticed there are "wind advisories" for the bridge today. The sun is out here now, but the wind here has jumped up to 50kmh, which will make it harder to stay on the snow covered roads.

Oh crap that would be horrible! Poor girls I live in Iowa, and whenever I drive over the bridge over the Mississippi River into Illinois, I'm always afraid of some kind of accident happening that would send my Jeep into the great river. I keep my fingers next to the window switches in case I need to make an emergency exit. Although I doubt I'd make it to the shore. That's a long way to swim in frigid water, and the current is strong.

Yes, winter is here on the northern sphere :-) Got our first snow last weekend here in Bavaria, but really just a coating. Here's a pic from my garden (135kb) :-) Perfect to grab a hot beverage and spend some fun with with our System 7 Macs :-)

Thanks for the picture @Bolkonskij. That is about the snow we had. In the northern parts of the US snow typically comes from a cold arctic mass moving down and hitting warmer air. It snows then it gets colder. In the southern parts snow comes from warm air moving north and generally it will get warmer after the snow. So the little snow we got is holding on and this weekend it is projected to be about -20C. So anyway, personally I think of it as a good time to fire up the oven and do a bunch of baking. And of course it is Thanksgiving today in the US, so lots of baking is seasonally appropriate. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

We've had snow in The Netherlands over the past few days, with temperatures hovering around 0 degrees Celcius, so everything stays covered in a blanket of white. @Bolkonskij: I keep forgetting that you are from Germany, which I rediscoverd looking at the picture you posted. Your garden looks decidedly vintage in 256 colours. ![]()

Snow in the Netherlands is a sight to be seen, not too often that happens, eh? :-) You're right about the garden looking vintage (not only in 256 colors) but the little house and garden is essentially from 1985 (see, retro everywhere in my life!) and predates the IIci I'm typing this on by four years

Quote from: Bolkonskij Snow in the Netherlands is a sight to be seen, not too often that happens, eh? :-) Indeed it does not. In my recollection (which is 100% subjective and 0% based on facts) we used to have more snow throughout the winter season. The landscape looked beautiful here in the south, covered in about 20 cm of snow last week. All gone now, replaced by rain. Shame!
