I have a problem with my Mac. As soon as I use the internet, e.g., with Network Time, I can no longer shut down or restart. Finder simply ignores the menu items and freezes a little later. I've now installed MacsBug and opened it immediately after restarting. HZ says there are corrupted heap zones. HC shows me an address, Pointer to zone is Bad. Otherwise, everything else says OK. Now the question: Could this have something to do with the freeze (but the computer runs without internet and can restart or shut down at any time). And how do I find out what's causing the freeze or where this bad pointer is coming from? It's almost at the beginning of the list. 2000 is syszone, 2240 is bad, then OK again. Config: 475, 36 MB no virtual memory, system 7.5 (before 7.6 with same Probs), bluescsi wifi Extertal, SCSI2SD internal. |

Ok, perhaps you'll take comfort in knowing that we both share the same problem, I experience exactly the same on my IIci when using a BlueSCSI2SD with WiFi. I *did*, however, experience the same when using a RaSCSI for my internet earlier, so I'd rather look at some OS level issue. But it definitely has to do with networking as I can't reproduce it without network access (same as with you!) I also don't have it happen every time. It feels like a 50% chance when you hit the shut down command. As you described, everything will come to a standstill. It'll come back after a force quit of Finder. I found that if you repeat that 2-3 times, it'll eventually shut down properly. As if it chokes on some background processes. I have no further explanation, but perhaps some of our members with deeper MacsBug know-how can give us advice on how to debug this effectively?

When I read the headline "freezing after using the Internet" I thought to myself: "All he has to do is close his Windows to get warm again".
