Man... SheepShaver really sucks. This might be the least user-friendly software ever in history. |

Agreed. I have yet to get it up and running. I also haven't spent much time on trying as I have a ton of older hardware that lets me run System 6 to Mac OS 9.

I registered for this forum specifically to echo dpaanlka's sentiment regarding SheepShaver. Even if it was only reasonbly user-hostile, it would be an improvement. Really what we need is something like the PearPC frontends on Windows, where at least they would create and modify a config file without having to dig around.

The first time I came across SheepShaver was using BeOS. It enable PPC users of BeOS to run the MacOS under BeOS. In that implementation it was not all that user unfriendly. It was at that point a commercial application. It was discontinued and has been revived a few times. The BeOS version is available for download and works well for running 7.6 and 8.0 under BeOS. I had heard rumors at one point that MOL (MacOnLinux) was going to be ported over to OS X. Allowing for PPC users of Mac OS X to create a run time environment for the older Mac OSes in OS X. This would be for users of PPC based Macs only as MOL is not really a hardware emulator. bill

MoL was ported to OS X, but it was ported for 10.3, and system changes for 10.4 render it unusable in Tiger. There was never any sound support in the OS X port. Then there was a port of THAT called Mac-on-Mac which made it more friendly but it doesn't work on Tiger, either.

It wasn't easy to get working, but there is a version of SheepShaver out there that runs under OS X on Intel. However, I was unable to get it to run anything other that 9.0.4. The GUI part of speeshaver crashes frequently. Mac-on-mac I haven't been able to run at all.
