I have a new, intel-based, MacBook Pro with OSX 10.4.7.  Does anyone have any idea how I could get System 7 to work on this computer, or if it is even possible, perhaps through emulation or some other means?

My ultimate goal is to somehow get Cosmic Osmo running on here...

SheepShaver allows you to emulated a PCI-based PowerPC Macintosh, on which you can run Mac OS 7.6.1 - Mac OS 9.1...

It looks as thought it only supports 7 for Linux.  SheepShaver only supports 8.5 and higher for OS X.

That must be old documentation, or very incorrect.

Many people have 7.6.1 running in SheepShaver.

Hi everybody, i'm interested in emulate Mac OS 7 in a G3 Blue and White in order to use a software that we have in a Quadra 610 running Mac OS 7. We don“t have a lot of space in our laboratory and we would like to port that software to other computer if could be possible.
The problem is that the software of my interest uses a dongle between ADB port and keybord, do you know if the dongle could be recognized for Mac OS 7 under emulation in SheepShaver?

The OS X version of SheepShaver only support OS8.5 through OS 9.0.4. You would need to check and insure your software will run on OS 8.5.

The B&W has an ADB port and SheepShaver works well with the real hardware, so there is a solid chance that it will work with a dongle. Of course testing it is really the only way to know for sure.

Basilisk is another option to provide support for the older Mac OSes on newer hardware. It is a 68k emulator.

That isn't true - I've had 7.6.1 running in SheepShaver before.  Here is the official page of the Mac OS X version, which also states that it can run 7.5.2 through 9.x.  Unlike Mac OS 8.5 and up, to run Mac OS 7.6.1 you need an ROM ripped from an actual Mac that can run 7.6.1 (which no G3 and up systems can).

This is from the FAQ. While the Linux version and the BeOS version support System 7.5, the OS X version only supports OS 8.5 and 9.

>Which versions of MacOS are supported?
>In Linux: PowerPC MacOS 7.5.2 up to MacOS 9.0.4.
>In Windows: PowerPC MacOS 8.5 up to MacOS 9.0.4.
>In Mac OS X: PowerPC MacOS 8.5 up to MacOS 9.0.4

On a recent MacBook Pro with 10.4.x, I was only able to get SheepShaver working with 9.0.4.  I tried several other classic OS version to no avail. <shrug>

Mac OS 7.6 does in fact work, but you HAVE to have an original Mac rom image file.
