Macintosh Garden has an Ogg Vorbis download for Quicktime. I have downloaded it and installed it. However it does not appear to work.

There are a few music streams I listen to on a regular basis that are ogg streams. It would be nice having them work on Mac OS. I am using OS 9 and iTunes. I was just wondering if anyone else have tried ogg and have had any luck getting it to work.

I think there are a few folks here who like to stream radio/music.

Well, I can play ogg vorbis files offline, but haven't tried streaming them yet.

You might be right and ogg just does not work with streaming. All I use a music player for is playing streams. My music library is empty except for my "Internet Stations" playlist. Most of my stations use mp3, or ACC, but I do have a couple ogg streams that I like.

By the same author who wrote MpegDec, is JustOgg download from the Mac Garden, or from the MpegDec mirror.

I haven't tried this one (I don't know any ogg streams, off-hand) but if it's anywhere near as good as MpegDec, it may fit the bill.

[Edit] Yep, JustOgg works fine. Add an ogg stream URL into a plain text doc, save and open it with JustOgg. Remember to place a carriage return at the end of the URL before saving.

Currently playing an ogg stream in Mac OS 9x.

Requires System 7.1.2. or higher - PPC Macs only (I think).

[Edit 2] Audion 3 works fine too, if you'd prefer a prettier UI ;)
For a comparison list of features, Audion 3 vs  iTunes 2, see screenshot #6 on the Audion page.

I found a few random ogg stream links to test this out. This one has to be the weirdest:   http://69.195.153.34/cvgm128.ogg
(Oldschool 8-Bit Video Game And Console Music - CVGM.net).

Thanks for the links. I had no luck with JustOgg. I am sure it was just me. Trying to figure it out before my morning coffee got me up and running :)

Audion worked like a champ. For the first time I have listened to an ogg stream on a Mac. It says it works on OS X as well so I am going to try this on my Tiger install on the 1st gen MBP.

I recall the time when interfaces, making interface etc was a real thing. Thank god that era passed quickly. Audion's interface is just plain nasty.

Thanks again, this is wonderful. Here is an ogg stream I listen to <http://ubuntu.hbr1.com:19800/trance.ogg

*I built pipe organs for a living. The machines that create this racket have an interface similar to an organ console and after I retired I "consulted" with a fellow that builds these music machine on makeing and interface to control them.

That's great, wove. Yes Audion is terrific. I use it a lot in 8, 9 & X, also in Rosetta in 10.6.8 and earlier.

JustOgg would be more useful in System 7 situations where there aren't many players that can play streaming audio in 7 - MpegDec being the other useful streaming player for 7 systems.

That ubuntu.hbr1 URL you gave, I was unable to access in both JustOgg and Audion... I suspect however, that some channels uses geo-location to determine who can tune in. I know that the URL is correct, as it played fine in a browser while using a US proxy. When I turned off the proxy, it also couldn't connect to it. -I live in Australia.

One ogg stream I came across in my searches and for me "a keeper":

Thanks for the stream URL. It is a keeper for sure. I listened to the stream all last evening. For ogg streams on newer Mac OSes I have resorted to using VLC, or playing them on a Linux VM. I have ran into region blocking(?) myself. Many streams from SE Europe are blocked for me. Some music created in that area is a fusion of polka, jazz and disco and it rattles around in my head very nicely.
