How ya’ll doing? A friend of mine gave me a game called Mac Command some time back. I thought I would fire it up. When I run the game I get a dialog box stating “Please Insert Original Key Disk” and the computer locks up immediately, the mouse freezes and I have to power off the machine to recover. If I insert the game before power on, I get a sad mac screen with an error code. When I search for the game on the web (to try overwriting the disk with a working copy) I can’t find the game anywhere. No matter the search variant I try all I get back is “hidden games in terminal” LOL The game is not even on Mac Garden. Any suggestions?

Yes, old Mac's will try booting from a floppy disk, before the HD if a floppy is inserted when booting up. Though, it should have spat the disk out as being unbootable -unless there's a System on that floppy (not visible in the pics).

The MacCommand game is on the Mac Garden you were perhaps searching for two words instead of the single word "MacCommand" only.

If you read the user comments on that page, you'll see that this game is a lot older than even the Mac you are trying to run it on. In fact, it looks as though this game will run only on the very earliest Mac, a 128k Macintosh from 1984 or it's upgraded 512k Mac, and no other Mac.

@MTT
Thanks for the info... that explains it! You guessed it, the only search I used was two words. The MG link is interesting as it plainly states the limitation of this game as you described. Looks like a few people (myself included) would have liked to play this game!

@Johnny7: Yes, I've since downloaded the disk image from the MG for a closer look.

There is a System file from 1984 on the floppy, and of course, incompatible for booting your newer Mac, which explains its locking up with that "Sad Mac" error code.

The floppy is bootable on a 128k or 512k Mini vMac variation build, as the comments on the MG page say.

I used a 128k Mini vMac build to test and it boots up onto that, launching immediately into the game. I went as far as testing it on a Mac Plus Mini vMac, and as the MG comments say, it fails to run on that (and newer Macs).

It actually plays very well on that 128k Mini vMac variation build.

Sounds like a good excuse to either get a 128K / 512K Macintosh or to give the game to the owner of one such machines :-)

So, I tried to run the disk image over at Infinite Mac.
https://infinitemac.org/
I tried System 1.0, 2.0 and 2.1 without success. The image mounts just fine. There are a LOT of customize options for each system. In the end I kind of gave up. Anyone have any experience with Infinite Mac?
@Bolkonskij - you're right, I need to give this to someone that can use it, along with the other dozens of vintage stuff I need to unload or sell! 😊
