PhotoFlash - Another super fast image processing tool, this one aimed at retouching photos with the customary "Enhance" filters (adjust color, brightness, sharpness, remove dust specks and cracks a.s.o.).

It works really well even with images 28+ MB in size (your mileage may vary with limited RAM) and produces astonishing results.

Its filters, though limited, work definitely faster than most PhotoShop plugins for the same purpose.

So this is essentially a processor dedicated to digital photos? (retouching, effects)

Trying to grasp it's sense and place in the workflow. Before someone would use a photo e.g. in a DTP program, PhotoFlash would come in first and optimize the photo? (essentially something previously done in PhotoShop)

Its practically a predecessor of the many photo touch up apps we have come accustomed to today.

Instead of reading through countless help pages to figure out how to fiddle around with those complex PS plugins to get rid of photo imperfections (or heaven forbid manually correct them for hours at a time) this tool allows you to perform the most important "enhancements" with just one or at max. two sliders.

It is also fully scriptable - indeed it comes with it owns set'o tools for scripting - and has some nice QuarkXPress & PageMaker templates for newspaper editing (including the appropriate PhotoFlash extensions for these DTP behemoth suites).

The program can even "straighten out" photos automagically, so your leaning tower of Pisa (or Pizza?) finally comes out at the right angle. ;)
