Click on "Connections" and choose "New" in the menu bar. Should open a dialog window about a default connection (choose it) and then one with the connection details (I think the System 7 Today Hotline is preset). And yeah, the unstuffing is truly annoying. Took about the same time (if not longer) on my IIci ... @knezzen Kudos for releasing the new version! I'll give this a try if I can find the time today :-) |

Johnny7: Are you referring to "new hotline" on modern macOS? As Bolkonskij mentioned you need to open a new connection and it should connect you to hotline.macos9lives.com as user "HotStuff User". When you're done setting your window size, icon and nick you can "save setup" from the same Connections menu again. The next time you open HotStuff you open your newly created client and it'll use your settings. We've taken this approach so you can have different nicknames, logins and icons on different servers. You can find some trackers to add under the Apple menu --> Tips and tricks. Add these to the tracker Window (Connections --> Tracker) to start browsing around in Hotline-space  I have been focusing a lot on bug fixing and Hotline protocol functionality. I'm more or less done working on those things now, so I can start focusing on the user experience instead. I'm thinking that a "get started guide" type of initial window would be a good idea, perhaps. Or a "tip of the day" or something along those lines. Any ideas?

If you install Hotline these days, you probably already have a general idea of what it is. What you'd probably want is to dive right into the experience. I'd personally like very much to see the connect window pop open on startup, pre-filled with the connection details for the S7T Hotline server. So all you'd have to do is to hit the "Connect" button and jump onto the server. Re: Download + unstuffing times - any chance we could get a pure 68k-only version of HotStuff instead of the FAT binaries?

Thanks for the feedback, Bolkonskij! Sure, I guess I could do a separate 68k release, but it's a bit tedious just for the sake of extracting the archive. It will be quite large despite the 68k only release. Maybe a "upgrade only" package with just the binary in a .hqx archive?

@Knezzen The Hotline I was referring to was V1.2.3 for 68k Macs. Thanks for the quick start tips. I'll give it another go.

Yeah, the original Hotline client usually opens all the windows when starting the application. With HotStuff you open up what you need (or it opens for you) etc. Please do give it a go again

Knez, I'm in! Bolkonskij was there to greet me! So, next I'll try to discover all the coolness of this service. Connecting to multiple servers at once sure seems neat. When adding a tracker, i.e., hitracker, what goes in the address field? Sorry, all new to me... 😎

Knez, "GetFileComment" is not a Mac toolbox call, so you are probably getting it from a plugin of some sort. That would explain why it only causes problems on m68k...could be another one of the ones that isn't available and needs to be replaced.

Downloaded the latest Release. Mhh... after opening the default Client, login Windows Shows me greyed out edit fields and nothing is happening. Clicking into such a greyed out edit field changed all edit fields to normal and let me type into it. But it still do not connect. Let me try a Reboot... Edit:Ahhh ! MacTCP was disabled. Well, so it should display an error message ;-)

It's a problem I haven't really though about. I'm not even sure how to check for it. Time out when it haven't been able to open a socket in X time, perhaps?

Wow 20MB hard drive was the same one I had in my Mac SE. It was my first hard drive and a real game changer. I also had 4MB of RAM. It was such a powerful machine I upgraded my modem to 1200 baud. Just living large back in the day.

Very good idea! Let's see if I can overwrite what's uploaded to the garden. I sure need a official website for HotStuff as well. Not sure where it should live though. I don't feel like registering a new domain name just for HotStuff, or if we (S7T or M9L) should be hosting projects... Something to think about.

Awesome update, Knezzen!  I was thinking of a.. wait, isn't it called 'deflate' or something like that? I'd forgotten that StuffIt allows you to create uncompressed archives, I used to think, 'what's the point?' but it's still a valid way to email or host any Mac program, mostly online, too; unless it's on some PC-formatted storage! Brilliant suggestion, Mike!
