Since there's a extreme shortage on 68k Hotline clients (there's only one) I decided to take matters into my own hands and solve the problem once and for all. The official client is fine, but locks up the whole machine (you can't switch applications) if you use it on 7.1. The client I'm working on supports all Hotline 1.8 functions such as: *Threaded news *Banners *Queable downloads Other fun stuff: *Connect to multiple servers at once *Comes pre-loaded with ALL Hotline icons It's build with RealBasic 3.5.1 and my target platforms are 68k, PowerPC and Carbon (for that sweet, sweet OSX fun). I'm horrible at releasing the stuff I'm working on. Too much of a perfectionist and I just have to fix "one more thing". Bolkonskij thought that enough is enough, so I'm informing you all that the latest development binaries are avaliable on our Hotline server for download. When we're at a release stage I'll make a pretty page and make it avaliable "officially" as well. I need your help! I only have my 540c running 7.5.5, 8600 running 7.6.1 and my TiBook running 9.2.2 to test it with. Bolkonskij is kind enought to do bug testing on his machines as well, but I recon the more, the merrier. Download, join our friendly Hotline server and help me with some bug testing. New 68k software in 2023! ![]() Screenshot from my TiBook: http://revontulet.org/2023/08/31/d4951b01c6a14a1785d86fc9f123cbc8.gif |

Some observations: - the "lag-o-meter" actually causes considerable lag on 68k machines like my IIci - usernames are scramled with some weird looking characters (I'll send you a video), other stuff like chat or the files section display fine - "open expanded userlist" causes a crash - Mouse click events generally seem to cause the dreaded Macsbug error, double check the mouse click event routine? Will do some more testing tomorrow

grreat looks good except for the fact that us system 7 users will be stuck with a 1999ish platinum-esque UI which looks out of place on a system 7 mac!

snes1423: You get a System 7 UI on System 7, of course. The screenshot is from 9.2.2 though. We are moving along FAST, smashing bugs to left and right as we move forward ![]() Thanks a lot to Bolkonskij and 17lifers here on the forum for all the 68k bug testing!

excellent work, I'll have to dial in whenever I get either my SE or the 6200 talking to the world at large how hard was it reverse-engineering the hotline protocol?

Almost everything is working now. Added support for the "modern" type of banner style icons as well, making it the only Hotline client on "Classic" Mac OS to support it. Just need to solve a bug where the client would crash on finishing a download on 68k. After that it's ready for a public release

Working on this still from time to time and it has taken the place of Panorama as my primary Hotline client. Anyone else using it or am I the only one still? ![]() Almost time for a new release

I use it from time to time. It is particularly helpful how it allows to queue multiple files for download. Not all clients allowed me to select all files at once, but this one did.

As soon as I finally get my butt on Hotline I'm going to try using it on my pb540. I thought I'd lost my aaui ethernet adapter for good, and was dreading having to ebay another one, but was cleaning and found kittens had just knocked it behind shelf where I'd stored it!

Running it right now on my pb 540, with 7.6, works fine! It did crash with an "out of bounds" error when I tried to change my avatar icon. The window opened, but it only showed the first 3 icons and crashed when I tried to scroll. I had vm turned on so it didn't just run out of memory. Otherwise, rock solid! FYI, if you get bored, could you add a zoom box for the window? I had a little trouble resizing it for the tiny screen.
