BlueSCSI v2 Pico is out!

- BlueSCSI v2 is based on the Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller and a fork
of ZuluSCSI's SCSI2SD code
- It is open source, open hardware, and open design.
- It is fast, pushing 10MB/sec.
- It comes in 3 models, Desktop, Laptop, and DB25.
- It has tons of new features.
- It is available now to build yourself or buy.

All of the details here: https://bluescsi.com/v2  (modern browser required)

It's great to see this project progressing! Even though I have all the SCSI2SD I'll probably ever need :-D Still, for those getting into Retro Macs or simply needing to replace an aging hard disk, this promises to be a cheap and excellent solution.

Purchased a DB25 BlueSCSI v2 this week.  Anxiously awaiting its arrival!  Maggie, my PowerCenterPro, is going to get the v2 with an install of 7.6.

Yes, please do! I'm looking for an alternative for SCSI2SD for some of my older machines. Would love to hear how it works out for you :)

Posting this from Maggie running a fresh install of 7.6.1 (straight from the original PowerComputing CD-ROM, of course) from the BlueSCSIv2!

The setup process was fairly simple.  I had a microSD card I've been saving for something like this so I popped that into my faithful white MacBook and formatted it as exFAT with Disk Utility.  From there, I used the latest version of the Disk Jockey application for MacOS to create the blank disk images (four blank 4GB images).  Once Disk Jockey created them (and a nifty, complimentary ROM disk with a few choice BlueSCSI utilites pre-loaded), I copied all of it to the SD card.  I ejected the SD card from the MacBook, inserted into the BlueSCSI and plugged that into Maggie's DB25 SCSI port, and got down to the fun stuff.

Oh, one thing to check - Disk Jockey creates images in the correct naming convention for the BlueSCSI (great!) and part of the name is the SCSI address.  I discovered upon booting Maggie that the SCSI address of one of the images conflicted with Maggie's ultra-aggressive TEAC CD-ROM drive.  So, I had to fiddle with the name of that image to select a different SCSI address.

Once that was sorted, I booted Maggie from the PowerComputing CD-ROM, installed System 7.6.1 and a few other things, set the Startup Disk in the control panel, and rebooted.  I've spent the last hour or two installing the updates detailed here on the website, connecting to "Phoenix" my new home server (more to come on that), and installing some baseline software (like iCab which I'm using to post this update).

I haven't run any benchmarks or anything like that - I'm more concerned with phasing out Maggie's elderly hard drives and maybe taking a bit of strain off the power supply than I am about big gains in speed.  Still, Maggie is as fast as ever, with no hard drive noise.  Not that it quiets her down much - the power supply fan is very loud - hoping to figure out how to replace it someday.

Thanks for that report, mac-cellar. So as with SCSI2SD you do need a modern Mac OS (or Windows?) computer running a setup / firmware patcher. I'm still hoping we'll one day see a "self-contained" solution plug & play style.

Yes after my issues i tend to agree, you need a new computer my cheap 2011 imac was a little old  for the task really. Need a minimum of os 10.14.

Interestingly disk utilities was one of issue getting my bluescsi working. It didn’t format my card properly so it wouldn’t recognize it, i had to download an sd formatting tool and hey presto it’s now working. I’m not happy with the os or disk size from the pre-made hda but at least i know it works. Time to make a new hda.

One downside of the small bluescsi is it’s left a big hole in the middle of my computer without the old hd, looks a bit odd in the clear case so need to find something interesting to go in there, mini art installation maybe lol

For reference mine is version 1.1
