It's a movie program for low-end 68k Macs and it delivers fun black-and-white dithered films on compact Macs! ![]() Here's the link to it's page and a version with audio is coming out soon, too! ![]() http://www.macflim.com/ |

It's quite impressive work and I love the dithered b&w movies playing on a Mac SE. Recently ran into some old VideoWorks stuff that was fun to look at . The audio version of MacFlim has been in the works for over a year now I think (?) so I wonder if it's still actively developed. Getting audio to work seems like a really tough job. That said, I haven't tried it out, but sounds like an interesting idea.

I think the downturn in Apple's fortunes started when they moved to using color. Even today on a newish Mac, I do into accessibility setting and set the display to greyscale (you can not do black and white anymore). I have always kind of thought that color stuff was for people who lacked either imagination, or memories. Generally I will always take black and white pictures and if possible watch movies in black and white. I also tend to think that textbooks that have pictures, have them because they are just poorly written. And yes I quit reading the New York Times when they started including pictures.

I love the back & while screen myself, Not sure why, maybe the simplicity, the silly little screen by modern standards. Macs were quite different from other os of the time. Pc’s on dos where black with cream, orange or green text. Others were lurid bright colours yet the Mac being white with black text was so much classier somehow. Clarity is also top notch. My se/30 is my goto every time. Maybe it’s the limitation or attempting to push its limits doing silly things like surfing the web, playing music and now films 😂 i’ll defo be trying that tomorrow Same on taking pictures 80% b&w

The SE/30 is probably my favorite Mac of all time. I used one from ~91 till 2000. I had it nicely tricked out. I did have the video card that either gave greyscale for the built in monitor, or could produce color on an external monitor. I had picked up a ThunderScanner which was a replacement head for an ImageWriter that made the InageWriter into a (rather poor) scanner. It worked all the way back to the MacPlus, and slowly produced very pixelated black and white images. I seem to recall with later versions of HyperCard that .mov files could be embedded into cards(?). It strikes me as somewhat humorous that those simple feats feel so much more impressive than much of what very new, cheap and powerful computers do today. I mean to this day I am more impressed with a Thunderscan image on an SE than a 20 megapixel image from an iPhone.

I’m so with you, i get so excited getting the little se/30 to do seemingly simple things way more impressive. I do my house finances on excel on my se/30 just because I enjoy it even though you can only see about 16 cells on screen. I have an i7 work laptop, 24inch screen with 365 and it’s just boring on that. I would like to see YouTube on a compact, obviously need to be seriously low res but i don’t care. Bet you wished you had that greyscale card now, rarer that rocking horse poop now Hey it’s the waiting for that pixelated picture that’s exciting
