You had me in stitches with that last line 68040! :D

I wonder if those PC games may have included any hybrid Mac and PC games? Of course, I'd imagine the big PC game collectors may have contributed most mainstream computer games online in places like the MG, but the chance just one skipped or forgotten game may surface like that could be a small goldmine to other users :)

But again, those are 'needle in a haystack' moments indeed :(

Another idea, if newspapers are still a thing these days, maybe put a small ad asking for people nearby having computers, peripherals and software they want to offload to others, a sort of adoption of sorts.

The ad could read, 'looking to adopt vintage computer accessories and old Macs' ;)

We sometimes underestimate the goodwill of others and possibly save these treasures from being otherwise disposed of at estate and yard sales like the items I saved the other day :o

I tend to agree, they are now pretty rare especially outside of the usa. And the ones that do come up on ebay are sold for silly money.   My idea upgrades for my SE/30 daystar accelerator or bolle card. Twin pds adaptor and the allusive greyscale card.

I was/am very fortunate. The town I live in has a college which trough the mid oughts was an all Apple campus and the local school district is still all Apple. After move out at the end of the college year you could go up to the school and they had a couple dumpsters that were generally full of old Apple hardware. That is where I got my SE/30, my Quadra 840 and a MachV 8600/300.. That influence was lasting and the area remains something of an outlier in that you find as many Mac users as you do users of other systems.

The SE/30 I picked up had the card, that would either give you a grey scale internal monitor, out output to a color monitor. It remains my favorite Mac. However, I am a sucker for picking up cash and an SE/30 with the grey scale video card has always sold for crazy stupid prices so I sold it for a crazy stupid price. And by 2005 the 840 and 8600 were also bringing in crazy stupid prices.

I used System 6.0.5 on the SE/30. I had 8.1 on the 840 and I was very experimental with the 8600, sometimes running 8.5, sometimes BeOS,  OS X was running on it for a while and I installed SUSE Linux at the end.

I did have the opportunity to buy an accelerator and greyscale card for around £300 about 6 years ago but unfortunately i needed to buy a new washing machine and fix the car so turned it down.  then all mac and accessories shot up in price. I was looking on ebay the other day and some fool wanted £1600 for a working mac classic with keyboard. It hadn’t been recapped, standard capacity and low amount of ram, ok It was in fairly good condition but that could just br retrobrite anyway. They were outdated even when new and designed as a cheap mac under a £1000 for students. not that collectable in my eyes and most definitely not worth that kind of money. I actually think the original 128s and 512 are overpriced but at least they have a historic relevance. Don’t get me wrong the classic is the prettiest compact but not a patch on the earlier SE or SE/30 for what you can do with them.

I shouldn’t complain though i paid £60 for my SE/30 with the network card in it, working with keyboard and mouse and 7.1 on floppies. That must be 7 years ago. Don’t think i’ll ever sell it as i like having it around.
I don’t know why but later mac’s i’m less interested in using and i have several. 6230, 6500, G3 imac and a macbook 140 i think, that one needs fixing though. I actually like the compacts, and II’s but probably just a nostalgia thing.
