NewNOTEPAD II makes for a fine URL Manager, as it allows you to store your links in a hierachical menu *and* open them up in a browser automagically via the URL button in the window's menu.

Nice addtion for a vintage setup. :)

Very cool indeed! :D

Not that many programs in this category handled URLs as well as this program, but I believe that Apple introduced web and email link awareness as an add-on for System 7.x onward? Or at the very least as from 7.1.x I'm pretty sure. This characteristic was pretty avant-garde at the time but the Internet was a huge sensation for everyone back then so I'm thankful this program's creator did not skip 68k Macs!! :)

Interesting suggestion, need to try this one out. Especially since the Garden's page says it's Mac OS 8 and higher but usually that means it can run on at least 7.6 as well. Thanks!

Don't forget: You have to specify the full URL syntax (http:// or ftp:// or …) or it won't recognise the string as a web address.

Just gave it a try on 7.6.1 this morning. Works perfectly fine. According to the readme of 1.9.4, it should work on any System 7 Mac, including 68k. (coming as a FAT application)

Seems like a capable notepad app. URLs work fine as 68040 described - one click on them and iCab fired up on my 8600. Interface looks ugly to me, but then tastes differ and it's the "inner values" that count :-)

Deciding to try it out for some period - not as a URL bookmarker but rather as a classic notepad to jot down ideas and thoughts. Added it to the Apple Menu via an alias, so that it's fast to open up when I need to note something. Thanks for the suggestion.

Newnotepad II was developed by a Japanese author and was a shareware application. It served as my main notebook application for years. The author's page is till up:

<https://www.vector.co.jp/soft/mac/personal/se030888.html>

It is in Japanese and requires a newer browser. I can not read it, never could read it, but the site has been up for more than a couple decades.

I always liked the concept of a notebook as a url manager. Opendoc/Cyberdog used the notebook metaphor for url management, and I like that concept. In Cyberdog and probably NewNotepad II the urls could also be local content, which made it a very handy way to organize material you were using in a project.

I already wanted to point out the differing color preferences between "our" tastes and those favored in far away Nippon - which might account for the somewhat unusual looks of this nifty piece of software.

But I'm busy with my multimedia FM database templates right now.

68040.. what are you up to now with FMP? :D

Did you mention you were using version three versus FMP 4.1? I would have thought that the newer the better, but that's not always the case for everything (at least for everybody that is, lol) ;)

The MultiMedia DBs (Filmproject Manager and Artificial Language Creator) I found were in FMP3 Format and I had to crack their passwords first, to be able to make any changes.
