Well, while there is Monica it's still great to see new projects for classic Mac OS being developed.

GetDown Classic is a http downloader primarily developed for 68k & System 7 Macs. Feed it with a URL and it'll start downloading the file.

It's still an early version, but up for public testing:

Minimum requirements: System 7.0.1, a 68020 CPU and Thread Manager extension to be installed.

This project is evolving quickly, GetDown Classic is now already at v1.2:

According to the dev, it's mostly bug-free for now. Supports both OpenTransport, as well as MacTCP. It was designed to use minimal resources, and only supports insecure/un-encrypted HTTP at this time. Here's a screenshot. The Preset URLs are configurable in a preference panel.

I've found this quite useful for one particular site which I download frequently from, and I know what the file names are likely to be. It's easier and quicker than firing up a web browser.

It's now at v1.6, but the saving of presets no longer works. I've gone back to 1.2.

Very nice! Yes, that's a good use-case... it saves you the hassle of having to navigate a web browser to the destination for downloading a single file.
