WriteNow is a very lean and wicked-fast word processor for Mac OS 7 that's available in S7T's Software Guide! However, the last piece to complete this sweet WP is a copy of WriteNow Enhancer 2.0. macease.com via Web Archive http://images.macintosh.garden/2021/02/20/WriteNowEnhancer.gif |

Indeed! I've been a huge fan of T/Maker's WriteNow and been using it for years and years. I still use it to this day as my main word processor in conjunction with a Postscript printer. All writing and printing done on my 8600 in Mac OS 7.6.1. And tell you what, it's a great software even (especially?) for 2021! Lean, fast, efficient - does what you want but doesn't bother you with tons of options or assistants. So yeah, I am to be held responsible for the addition of it to the software guide ;-) As for the Enhancer - did that one pop up finally? I know you had been looking for it and so did I, but I haven't found it. Can't open the archive.org link from NS4.8 here, can you tell us what's on that page??

Well here's the blurb on it: "WriteNow is a terrific word processing program, but it does not include Tool Bars and some of the other features we have come to expect from newer word processors. WriteNow Enhancer provides WriteNow with a Tool Bar and several other significant new features that update the program to provide the productivity of a modern word processor while preserving the small memory footprint, ease of use and quickness WriteNow is famous for." It requires a 68020 Mac or newer, a copy of WriteNow 3 or 4 and is compatible with all versions of Mac OS Classic, System 7.5.3 and above ![]() Aside from an array of clickable functions on the toolbar, it also adds the following enhancements: With one click you can display all the characters, including hidden characters, that are included with each font on your system and insert them into your document. You can view and tile all WriteNow windows with one click. You can create and store multiple signatures for your documents. With one click you can insert any stored signature into your document. You can quickly create a glossary for items you use repeatedly in documents as well as items stored for future access. These stored items can be just a few words, a quotation, or several paragraphs; you can customize the glossary to fit your needs. You can select and insert any one of several pre-configured date formats into your documents with one click. With one click you can easily adjust your point size, at a resolution of one point at a time. The font, point size and style of the text you are working with are always visible. Clicking the Sort button will apply an alphanumeric sort to the selected rows in your document. The P-1 button quickly prints one copy of your document, eliminating the need to bring up a Print Dialog box. Easily windowshade the Tool Bar or make it invisible. So there, you see why this tool was the bomb back in the day and why it's an essential addition?

How unfortunate. Any author name other than John Smith that could be googled up and contacted to ask about the whereabouts?

Well, here is the site where it was linked to originally: http://www.macease.com/review-mariner_write.html So maybe there's a chance we can still ask for a copy?

Sadly, sadly it looks like this and the other Enhancer Gems from that site are lost forever. :-( Update: I stumbled on this during my search: MarinerWrite. But it looks like all 68k versions were removed from that list.

Had totally forgotten about Mariner! That's a nice program too, in spirit very close to WriteNow. I remember they were among the first to offer a OSX version of their software, which is how I found them when looking for software. Good catch!
