Quote And I therefore wouldn't buy a molehill in a country where I am not allowed to erect a decent fence around it. Perhaps if I were you and lived where you lived I would agree. If you look at the countries which allow Right to Roam - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_to_roam - they are relatively homogenous. They don't have high crime. There is high trust. Without that, you probably need fences and guns. |

Within a few more years the list of countries with "homogeneous" populations - bound by common traditions and public etiquette - will have grown shorter than the lifespan of a virgin trapped in a Louisiana whorehouse. We live in tumultuous times, to say it politely, and trusting strangers crossing your backyard at random is like tempting Freddy Krueger while sitting atop a stack of razor blades.

You are very pessimistic. This forum is a group of very different people from different cultures. We seems to get along pretty well. Resources and ideas are shared freely amidst the group. We share resources and intellectual property without squabbling endlessly about who's is who's are what is the best and only way. Getting along is often easier than it seems. Common ground is easier to find than generally assumed.

We are a small group of like minded folks, forced to act in the open, with no place to hide and the fear of immediate (administrative) retribution dangling over our unworthy heads - should we misbehave - like the sword of Damocles. Yet people who permit complete strangers to enter their home - like mosquitos through an open window - are inviting the kind of bloody mess under their roof that true crime stories are made of.

So since gmail doesn't have support for the old email clients to work on system 7, is there a website compatible with netscape that can load gmail? I'm using System 7 and Netscape 2.02

This website has no SSL layer but not sure if the flashies work on classic system 7: http://pascal.hansotten.com/ucsd-p-system/apple-pascal/. Its a nice read in any case. Now, this one here is a weird jewel: https://www.classic-computing.org/ You need two things to be able to read this site dedicated to "classic computing". A German translator and an SSL stack. Specially the later one is a funky requirement for the homepage of a society officially dedicated to "the preservation of vintage systems".

Yes, I've always been meaning to write the classic-computing guys and nag for a http connection. After all, if not some retro computing nerds, who would care setting it up? :-) Another long-timer that I extensively used when I was still a daily 6100 user - Kan's 6100 fanpage. Another site I hope to never see go away. ("They don't make 'em like they used to ...")

@themailman: from you post from back in February, the only way(s) (that have been mentioned in our forums) to get Gmail to work on a Classic Mac have been to either use STunnel, as 68040 does, or via the SSL Tunnel service that Knezzen has mentioned that System7Today.com has setup for just such a task that are compatible with (several? or at least a few) Classic email clients and/or web browsers that have email integration (if any do, like Netscape Communicator?) Email setup info url: http://system7today.com/email-on-system7 Sorry I missed your question within this post!
