Since I have been using Drag Thing instead of the Dock for years now, I can't go back. I simply hide the dock at the bottom. Unfortunately, you can't seem to get rid of it entirely.

It's in the default location, with slight magnification, and pretty much only the standard Apple apps in it. I also added my Applications and Documents folder, for easy access to everything else.

I keep it on the monitors“s left side, as I can spend some width for it with the usual wide screens. I am using the dock for apps, Google Earth, Firefox, OpenOffice, NTFS Mounter and more.

I usually just keep moving it but like it at the bottom and magnify and just keep adding apps.

I guess I could have put other. On our mini, I have the dock on the bottom with only a few extra items added. On our macbook, it's hidden, again with only a few extras. J White

I didn't realize the subject line for individual posts doesn't show up, so here's what the subject was: I get rid of it completely...

I have a dual-monitor config, I put it on the far left. Immediately next to it is Twitter, then Mail on the left display. Safari lives on the right display, full screen. I use multiple desktops (Spaces in Apple terminology) to separate uses. Next space over (when they're launched) is iTunes (left)+iPhoto (right). Then over from that is whatever other apps I happen to have open.
