I have a PowerMac 6100/60AV on the way (40MB RAM, 250MB HD).  I've never used this model before, but I know that it has AV inputs.  It supposedly is coming with "OS 7.5", and I also have a OS 7.6.1 install CD on the way.

Do these versions of the MacOS come with software that will allow me to view the AV inputs and display on the screen?

I've got a cable box that has RCA outputs, and what I'd like to be able to do is use the 6100AV's monitor essentially as a "TV" and view the output of the cable box onscreen (preferably full screen).

Does the software to do this come bundles with MacOS 7.6.1, or an earlier version?

Thanks for your help!

Yes, it's called Apple Video Player. It provides basic playback and recording functionality, although I find it rather unstable.

You can find a copy here:
http://main.system7today.com/software/applevideoplayer.html

You can also download QuickFLIX!, a free video editor with more functionality here:

You can also track down a copy of Adobe Premiere 5, updates to which and a screenshot are available here:

It all depends on what level of playback and recording you intend to do. The above three options can be considered basic, intermediate, and advanced respectively.

Thanks for the links - I've already downloaded that software in preparation.

So.... I know that the speed of this machine is limited and so capturing video at full resolution is difficult.

However, I am really only interested in using the AV inputs as an ability to watch TV from my cable box through the PowerMac.

Will the 6100/60AV along with this software (i.e. Apple Video Player) allow me to simply display the video fullscreen that is being input through the S-video input, in real time and with no dropped frames?

Also, will I use the Mic input on the 6100/60AV, as the AV card has no audio inputs?

Thanks again for your help!

Yes, displaying video on your screen is unrelated to the processing power of your computer and actually predates PowerPC chips... there are 68k Macs that do it just fine. The A/V card is simply routing the signal directly to your display, bypassing the computer.

I believe in your case yes.

Hi,
i think, the software you are looking for was called Fusion Recorder. Anyway, it came with my 7100.
As I don“t need it no more, I could donate it to you.

Greetings!

I checked my PM 6100/7100/8100 install CD and beside FusionRecorder I found "VideoMonitor".
I recall that I used that one in the days of System7 to display the SVHS signal from my Sony video recorder.
Worked fine, with a pretty large video overlay window.

Best wishes!
