Hey everyone,

I'm trying to squeeze some life out of a UMAX C600.  It's a great little computer (I've gotten it to do lots more than "officially" supported), and I'd love to try to get 7.6.1 on it.

After searching the site and the 'net, I'm left wondering, where on earth do I find 7.6, whether to download or to buy?  I know Apple offers 7.5.5 for free, which is probably what I'll do first.

Or, should I just skip System 7 and just install 8.1, the last "officially" supported OS for that computer?  Oh, is that blasphemy?

Note: I'm currently running 9.1 on the little guy due to some crafty Zip drive maneuvering.  However, as an experimental system it's not exactly stable, and I'd like to make it into a nice, fast, vintage machine.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Achates

OS 7.6 is commercial software and has never been released for free distribution. It is my understanding that it can still be purchased from Apple. eBay is one source. The Lowend SwapList is another source.

System 7 Today has its own classified section on the forums as well. After you have installed OS 7.6 be sure to run the update to OS 7.6.1 and check out Important Updates for further information on improving the stability and performance of your system.
