is most of the floppy drives the same? I have a ppc 7100 with a drive that doesn't read well. will one out of my g3 or ci work in the 7100. all are 2 meg super drives? |

I don't know how easy it is to get to the read heads on these drives, but they may be dirty. Over time a brown shellac builds up on them and a Qtip with a little rubbing alcohol usually cleans them right up. It's something to try before you go spending money on a drive that may not be much better than the one you already have.

Oh, if it's too hard to open the drive, you can try to locate a floppy drive cleaner kit. These usually have a special floppy with a cloth disc inside and you put a drop or two of cleaning solution (or rubbing alcohol) on the disc and then let it run in the drive for a bit.

I will try cleaning the drive. If that doesn't work can i replace it with the super drive out of my ci or g3?? are all the 1.4m drives the same" I do not want to fry something. I have every thing up and running

I have every thing up and running Apple changed from auto inject drives to manual inject drives during the reign of the the Quadra 840. All the PPC based Macs use the same floppy drive. bill

I thought it was with the Quadra 700.
