Last summer I bought a Mac Pro. It's very fast and has soo many cools things about, which most people know, like expandable to 16gb ram and so on... One thing I really like about it is that's it's really quiet when it's on. Like you can't even really hear it. So my crazy idea is to make my Quadra 650 quieter, which pretty loud. I went to Walmart and bought a 33 gallon storage container with a lid. I put the quadra in there with the cables coming out of the top. Then put the lid on it. It cuts the noise down quite a bit, but not silent. The only thing I'm worried about is when I took the lid off after a half an hour, the air in there was a little warm. Does anybody think the computer will melt any other bad consequence will happen? I have been leaving the lid with a 3" gap at the end to vent a little. Though, that increases the noise. |

That is an interesting. I would think to some extent the storage container would work as a sounding board, and would not quiet the computer down all that much. Lining the container with foam, fiberglass, bubble wrap, etc would probably help deaden the sound even more. Depending on the shape and orientation of the container you should be able to create a chimmney effect by cutting a modest hole near the bottom and a hole in the top of the container about twice the size of the bottom hole. Three or four square inches at the bottom and six to eight at the top should be sufficient. Sound though those wholes could be muffled by putting something similar to furnace filter material over them. bill
