Ok, this is just a topic so that I can let off some steam. I wanted screensavers on my 7200, so I go to the garden to get one. After an arbitrary period of time passes, both iCab and NN 4 crash/freeze up on System 7, so I boot into Mac OS 9 to do it. I downloaded After Dark Deluxe 4.0 from the garden. After about 10 minutes or longer (I didn't time it) the 300 MB file gets downloaded. I begin the verification of the md5 with Checksum. Half an hour (estimated) later, verification is successful. Anywhere between half an hour to an hour later, my 7200 gets done unstuffing it. I realized I didn't have a virus scanner on my system, so I go back to the garden to get one. Once it's installed, I start the virus scan on the After Dark .sit file. 20 minutes later, I realize it's not responding, so I click Stop. That doesn't do anything. Force restart  Does anyone else encounter these experiences? |

Lol yes!  Even on more modern systems, timewise speaking. Something always seems to come up that just drags out what should have been a simple task.Also in response to @Bolkonskij's post yesterday. Wife and I had just talked about it, as we often have done before, how annoyed we get at everything digital that just drags out @_@

I found that even the slightest amount of cache can speed up drive access dramatically. Since You run on real vintage hardware, there might not be much you can do about this. But if you can get your hands on some extra memory bars, try to put new files onto a RAM drive before scanning them. And important: Locate your web browser's cache there, too.

was talking with someone the other day about ram prices according to him before the .net crash ram was extremely expensive than like within a year it became insanely cheap compared to before and DDR standardized that

I saw the other post only after I made this one, and then requested for the deletion of this lol. I would have rather posted in that one. I am using a PCI CPU accelerator card, and I was told by people to remove the cache from the main logic board. I'm not sure why it would hurt. Using a RAM drive is a good idea. I need to get more RAM though.
