Seems like not just Commodore is on its way back, the venerable old vector-graphics Vectrex console is apparently next up for a re-release: https://vectrex.com/ (modern browser needed) Just how "mini" is "Mini" going to be? |

Yes! Finally one makes a thread about this. I totally adore the Vectrex it’s so cool and the vector is so sharp. I found some games that I archived for it a year ago. I get the Kickstarter campaign and that they need to bootstrap it. But it was mini already -I'll wait for the next mini Addon: btw the Vecx emulator works perfectly on my daughters M2.

I was on "I HAVE to buy this" as I share your enthusiasm for vector graphics but then I've heard from somebody online that he was at the recent Gamescom in Cologne. They showed off the Vectrex Mini at the fair and he said it has perhaps *half* the size of the original Vectrex, with the screen being so small you could hardly make out things. To quote him: "It felt like I have to get like 10cm close in front of that tiny screen to make something out". Found that discouraging. I hope it's not true, to be frank.

While researching it back then, I wanted to get onboard and make it available. The original company had a prototype of a color version that never made it to the market. I really am glad someone else picked up the torch -let’s hope they get it to enough backers and sales and eventually launch the right mini size.

Some more info: * It'll be available in November * It will include 12 built-in games * A microSD slot allows for more games / homebrews * Price will be at 149 Euros (175 USD) * The screen is a 5" AMOLED screen * Powered via USB-C, uses a Bluetooth controller, and features a video output. Here is photo that gives a good impression of the size vs. the original Vectrex: http://revontulet.org/2025/09/01/e69e9fd7d18e4e0c8434d3ca692b1aa3.jpg

The original Vectrex only used 24-26 Watts, when running in its default state -that surprised me. I always take the power consumption into account. As much as I like e.g. the power center by SL Waber -I'd never use 1800 Watts! I had turned my head around a bit about a week ago, when I heard it came with HDMI output -that changes things considerably. Site only states: Is it possible to stream or display the console on a screen? "Yes, a video output is planned." The Retro Dodo Podcast had an Interview with David Oghia(<-link) -the French man leading the charge of the Vectrex company revival in France. The Vectrex Mini will be limited to 200 units and will cost €219 -it comes in white.

The HDMI out is a nice addition, but I've found the appealing because of its all-in-one design. Using it as a console that you have to plug into a TV or monitor via HDMI kind of beats the idea for me ? I'd rather would have liked them to build a Vectrex using one of those still produced CCTV 9" b&w CRT screens, mostly reusing the original form factor. A 5" is just too small to really make out things. I really hope they'll bring out a "Maxi" version after the Mini one.

It will never sit idle on a shelf -Vectrex Mini is destined for great success and a golden future. I’ve been very busy last couple days -maybe one will have luck later ;-)

Maybe they'll make a micro version so you can strap it around your wrist and play it on the go. To make it even better, they could include one of those old monochrome camcorder viewfinders to put up against one of your eyes.

@bolkonskij why black and white? isn't it color capable?? also having dealt with CCTV stuff in a extremely rural school setting they were pretty poor quality compared to a regular black and white tv
