Inspired by the talks about our discoveries of science software I thought we might shift attention to its own thread. If everyone chips in his discoveries of great reference / science material stuff for System 7, we might compile a "best of" list in a sea of software.

I'll start with my favorite as mentioned in the thread:

The Way Things Work
Unbeknownst to me, this appears to be based on a children's book / TV series of the same name. It aims to explain how certain technical things work, mostly in layman words. It ranges from satellites to car engines to the toilet flush. Beautiful graphics and animations make you wish your science teacher had used this during class ;-)

Best of it - the Mac Garden page for it holds three different language versions (English, French, German), so chances are you can enjoy the content in your native language. (especially great as a learning tool for kids)

Only downside I could find was the typical (to a European ;-) self-centered attitude of Americans, so basically almost everything was developed by Americans or American companies with the occasional Brit thrown in. :-) (No, IBM did NOT invent the computer)

Who else has some great CDs / Hypercard stacks to recommend?

But dear Bolkonskij, everything (important) was developed by Americans - or by people who wish they could have been Americans. 😁😅🤪

In all honesty, every successful idea has countless parents and only failure is an orphan.

But when it comes to presenting a thing, to tell a story in a way that entertains *and* educates, "made in America" usually hits the mark right on the spot.

I would also recommend Isaac Asimov's Library of the Universe.
