Just read a piece that mentions BBedit is 30 years old today. It has been a staple of Mac software for a long time. On release it advertised it was 32bit clean. It ran on System 6, but reliant on Mac OS features, it did not really shine until System 7.

I do recall everyone talking about it, but for myself it was just too complex and feature rich for me.

Happy birthday, BBEdit.  Found it intimidating for a long time, but once I started using it (thanks Bolkonskij) I loved it.  What a useful tool!

Wow, thanks for mentioning it, wove!

30 years you say? Incredible. It's been among my personal favorite Mac software titles for a long long time. And still almost daily in use. In fact, I just used it about 10 minutes ago when I made a small change to one of the pages on S7T. I'd be interesting how many thousands (!) of hours I've sunk into working with BBedit up to this point :-)

It's an amazing piece of software in that you can use it as a plain text editor as well as a fully featured code editor. And that might be the secret to its success: It's very basic and simple in its basic functionality but you can almost  endlessly extend it (plugins).

I intend on using it for yet another 30 years ;-)
