I understand that os 8 is banned outside the off topic area :-)

BUT.
Originally os 8 was supposed to be launced as sys 7.7 but due to the overheated discussions and expectations etc. about "Copland" (Apples wapourware os)that was targeted to be os 8, they launced sys 7.7 as os 8.

Thereby os 8 is rally on the border here.

I agree.  Mac OS 7.6 was actually the first "transitional" OS on Apple's path to a "new" operating system.  Mac OS 8.0 really is a lot more similar to Mac OS 7.6.1 than people like to think.

Mac OS 8.5 was the first truly different.  Sadly, it's performance is stunningly lackluster on older hardware.  Hence our purpose!
